Members taking European Delivery!

On May 2 (Tuesday) this week, two members (Ziv and BMWChi) traveled to Munich to take european delivery of their matching sparkling graphite E90's. As far as I know they're one of the first American individuals to take ED delivery so far. Ziv was kind enough to share his photos with us and write a review of his experience with the car while driving around in Germany. His review is here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...p?t=289&page=2

Here are some photos from their trip. Thanks Ziv.

Hei, thanks :-) I use a 3 year old Nikon D100 with a 24-120 VR lens. If you don't need the pro features of the D100, you can go for the D70s or the D50, which actually have some bug fixes I have on my D100. The reason I didn't switch is that they don't offer a grip, and since I mostly shoot fashion models and weddings, I can't do w/o the grip... I've shot about 250K frames with the D100. That would be about $70K worth of film :-)

Ya, the D70 kicks ass. In fact, last year it took about 80% of TOTAL DSLR sales, kicking Canon's butt in a major way. I used to be a Canon guy. They're both great platforms, but since I shoot really fast, and in dim light, I needed the AF to work all the time. Canon's AF didn't work well at all during the D30/D60 days, so I switched from Canon, and will never go back. Today, Canon DOES have an edge on Nikon with the 20D and the DS Mark II, but I'm sure that Nikon will have an answer soon.

If you want to see my fashion stuff, here it is:

They say 6-8 weeks. I've had friends that had their cars here in 4 weeks. The guy at E.H. Harms said that it takes 4 weeks to just get the boat to CA, through the Panama Canal. Figure another week to even get it on the boat, another week at the VPC... 6 weeks makes sense :-(

In 2004 I dropped off in Munich on May 3rd and got my car in San Diego June 23rd...about 7 weeks. Sometimes you get lucky with a rapid placement on a ship and sometimes your car stays in Germany for up to 2 weeks before it's floating. I've also heard that the VPC in Oxnard can have you car for a few days or 7-14 days depending on a million factors. Assume 8 weeks and you'll probably get it sooner. (the ship takes 25-30 days to go from Germany to Oxnard depending on the number of stops)

You give good advise. I know 100% that you're right. But I'm in total denial. I cannot stand driving my Chevy rental, so I'm praying to the E.H. Harms Gods to deliver the car to me in 4 weeks, and for the wind Gods to help the boat go faster. I am not a religious man. But I may convert, temporarily...

People, I take everything positive I've said, about Euro Delivery, back . These 2 months of torture are simply unacceptable. I just don't remember how I survived them 4.5 years ago with my first ED. I'm going crazy here.

What's the GPS site that people are using to track the vessels? I know there is one. I'm REALLY not crazy.

Ziv, if you know the name of the ship your car is on, you'll be able to use this vessel tracker:

What tires came on the 330i non-sport? My SGM/Beige/Poplar 330i is at the VPC now. I'll be getting it any day.

We both had Potenza's :-) I was pleasantly surprised. On my 330Ci, for 4 years, I drove on the Potenza S-03's Pole Position. I loved them. I don't know how these Potenza's compare to the S-03's, but they're probably close, since they have a very strong sidewall. When I bought the 330Ci, and saw that BMW put the ContiSport on it, I was very disappointed. They were really crappy tires. Over the years, they were improved, but at the time I took delivery of the 330Ci, they sucked. Now, BMW is putting amazing tires on these cars. I'm very impressed :-)
