I hate Auto-Clearing Codes
I've been using the CT tool with the auto-clearing code feature on for the past week. Before that, I had some misfire codes (DP/02 sensor mix up issues) and the HPFP code showing up. I made an appointment with BMW this week to check it out and there's no codes for BMW to check (HPFP code).
Sometimes it's a good thing to have codes stored so you know what's going on, but at the same time it's good they get deleted, basically a double edged sword. Just my 2 cents, and I know it's my fault for enabling auto-code clearing.

you can just turn that option off and clear the codes manually.

Yeah I know, I just wish I would have left it off before the dealer visit so I could have manually chosen what codes to delete.

Nope, nothing. I drove around close to 60-70 miles today hoping to get the codes to re-appear.

You can't manually select which codes, its either all the codes or nothing.

I thought auto code clear was only for specific useless for diagnostic codes... tuner, exhaust flap, etc. other codes would remain. Now the DME does erase codes after some time with no further occurrence.
Last time i cleared with BT it could do all or none. |

I don't think you can selectively remove 1 trouble code even with bt tool. I mean, you have a misfire, fuel pump and tuner code, all part of engine, you have to clear shadow codes which removes them all, no?

BT tool is not able to selectively clear codes if they are all in the same module. It clears all the codes within the module at the same time. Codes in different modules might be a different story......but the ones that matter most to us all fall within the engine module anyways. |
