JB+ questions. Don't worry, I did search before hand.
I'm considering a JB+, and have been searching through a bunch of long threads of information looking for some answers but can't seem to find them. Help is greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance, wonderful members of E90post!
1. Does the version of software my car is running on have anything to do with the JB+? I'm not sure what version I'm on. I do know that I got some kind of software update when my HPFP died a few weeks ago, although I have no idea whether that pertains to the JB+ or not. Is the HPFP update a full ECU update? 2. My car was a December 06 build, and also has no oil cooler. Will the JB+ make my car's normal oil temp increase? It's usually around 230-240 I believe, don't quote me on that. 3. What % will I be able to run the JB+ on without getting any codes? I've read many many threads, and so far the lowest documented percantage I have seen throw a code is 75%. Does this mean I could run at 60-65% with no problem? I know BMS says 50% for good measure, but I haven't seen any reports of codes thrown under 75%. Thanks again!

1. Doesn't matter.
2. Simply having it installed with not have an impact. When I had a JB+ I noticed no difference in temps during normal daily driving. My car does have an oil cooler. However, drive it aggressively and I would expect a slight increase in temps. Just common sense. 3. I ran up to about 80-85% with no codes. I think 50-60% would be very safe but you never can tell. If you are worried about a warranty I get a BT reader and run whatever % you think feels good. Personally, I felt it ran best in that 50-60% range. Feels like a strong factory tune, and not much chance for codes. Above that and the car was definitely stronger but not as linear or smooth. If you feel the need to go to 100% you need a different tune. |

No code in 50% setting. (clear all codes and adaptation before installation)
around 75% can trigger the classic 2D25 code :/

I've never heard of clearing adaptation, how do you do that? And I can't clear codes before hand because I don't have a BT scanner. If I had one, I wouldn't worry about getting codes because I could clear them, but I don't want to dish out the money for one of those at this point in time. Also I don't really want to push the car too much with no other mods to assist, and especially with no oil cooler.

I wish they were cheaper! It's such a shame they didn't come stock in the car for a good while. Don't know what BMW was thinking making a performance vehicle with no oil cooler.

or find a local shop that has a BT cable.
when i had my JB3, i never cleared the code, and took it to the dealer and never had no problem. of course every dealer is different. Sold it because of the hassle of changing it back to stock, im waiting to get GIAC and the switcher, so i can just do it from inside the car. not worry about uninstalling breaking clips, etc. Even tho i could do it with my eyes close, its to much of a hassle dont wanna deal with it. im considering JB+ at first, see if that satisfies my needs. If not GIAC Stage 1 will follow. |

The software version doesn't matter but the latest software is much less forgiving in terms of o2 sensor codes, etc. (mostly for downpipes) but the JB+ performs equally well on any BMW software..
Shouldn't have an affect on oil temp, unless you are road racing the car, but then its always advisable to have a supplementary oil cooler, tuned or not. I usually recommend 50-75% settings. Above 75% codes are not uncommon, but if you have a BT scanner then they aren't an issue. You can always order the BMS CAN Tool combo if you are worried about codes. ITs a cheaper alternative to a BT and it allows you to run gauges on your dash Here is some more info on the CanTool http://www.n54tuning.com/index.php?_...d&productId=64 Mike Quote:

Yes great question indeed. I was looking at that but saw that it wasn't compatible with the 2007 models.

The 2007 requires an ECU mount since it doesn't have CAN at the OBDII port. The ECU mount harness has been on hold as BMS is still working on the G4 CAN firmware and they basically plan to copy it over to the CT (steering wheel controls and all) for ECU mounting.
