Wheel Torque Amount?

Just swapped on my winters today. My 195's will now be put to rest while the Rial Salerno's take place. I havn't driven her yet since backing out the garage. I torqued the lugs to 85 ft-lbs. What is the recommended spec? I found the lugs were very hard to break while taking them off. I checked the manual but didn't find anything. Also they are 225/45 r17 on all 4 corners, what PSI should i run? I have them at 35psi right now. Any advice?

I found the heavy offset pushes the wheels out a lot, especially in the front. I guess the staggered rears make it ok but still it would look good w/ a spacer.

88 ft/lbs is the recommended torque.

I thought it was 87 but I'm sure 1lb won't matter.

I always torque my wheels to 87 ft/lb and never have problems breaking the lugs. I do sometimes have problems taking the wheel off the hub though.

ft/lb is not a unit of torque.

Looks like you are in the ball park. However, ask your BMW Service Manager if you like to know exactly would be my recommendation. Also ask him what the +/- tolerance is in his shop (should be +/- something on the wrench being used).

Here are 2 links have a peek

Yeah anywhere between 85 and 90 is fine. I think the official BMW recommendation is 120 Newton-Meters. This translates to 88.5 lb-ft.

Torque specs have been covered in the thread already so I will skip that. For tire pressue you need to follow what is printed in the drivers side door jamb. For me it is 36psi fronts and 41 psi rears.

I was laughing at the fact that I typed ft/lb by mistake....it should have been lb-ft.

I also said 87 (at first ft/lb, but I'm sure people can figure out it's suppose to be lb-ft) which is right in that range....

Are the lugs supposed to break easily? I find they break very easy when torqued to 88. maybe my torque wrench isn't right? I can very easily crack the nut w/ a breaker bar.

A long breaker bar will easily loosen lugs that are torqued to 88 lb-ft. I'm assuming and hoping you mean "break" and "crack" as in loosen, not as in causing physical damage.

nice wheels!

I guessed from E46 spec but I also use 120 N•m. I think maybe it was initially 100 N•m for E46 but BMW increased it. Been a while, I forget now.

Did you use your original lug nuts or the one's TireRack provided? Would the OEM wheel lock nut fit or do i need a new set of wheel lock nuts for winter?
