Stock wheels style 230 - lack of tire selection
I have noticed that the selection for the style 230 rears (255/30 - 19) is a difficult find, with very few choices.
- has anyone put 265s instead of 255s? If so, does the performance suffer much? - if you stick with the 255, which tires do most switch to? (I want nothing to do with RFTs anymore). I remember when I first got my car, they used to have the Michelin PS2s, but nowadays no one carries them in the 255/30 19 size |

265/30/19 is not a problem on those wheels.

Still a lack of options in that size for particular kinds of tires. I have those rims and I dont know what to do. In CO we can get snow in 4 shoulder months (Sept/Oct;April/May), so I have to be prepared for snow, which DOES melt the next day or so from the roads, but during the snow, Im screwed, so I have to basically have all-season tires and run them during summer. We have those snow days followed by 75 for 2 weeks then it can snow again. So it doesnt make sense to run snow tires (too warm) and it doenst make sense to run summer tires (too cold, unsafe in the cold), so it sucks.
That leaves me with VERY few choices, and a lack of performance. I went with toyo proxes 4, in 235/265 (which actually are almost NOT big enough for the rim, no curb protection at all), but now that I have 13-15k on them, they are SUPER noisy. They grip pretty well though in all conditions but they arent summer tires. Id love to find an A/S tire that is more summer leaning and that doesnt get loud as it gets older in those sizes. I was looking at the conti-dws but they are only an A rating in grip. The bridgestone re960's are only a 245/275, and being more square, they MIGHT rub (not lowered). The michelin A/S arent made in appropriate sizes. Makes it really really tough. I feel ya OP. Hope this helps ya. I wish I could get a more of a winter dd vehicle (used x5 or something) so I could have both summer and winters for the car. And yea, Id still run winters in the winter because of potholes and when its 20 degrees and sunny, its still nice to take the car out on non-hockey pucks. |

I would think a 275 wouldn't rub on the outside at all if you don't have spacers. Can't speak for the inside though. I have 12mm spacers on my 230s all around running the stock RFTs (so they have that sidewall poke), and I am still planning on going 265 and spacing out to 15 or maybe even 18mm with a roll to be safe.
I would bet that even if 275s rubbed inside, you could put on a 5mm spacer to get back that clearance, and still have a ton of room outside.

I have Continental Extreme Contact DWS in 265/30/19 on my rear 230's. They work great in the wet and dry. Hopefully, the mid-atlantic won't receive the snow it did last year.

I have 235/265 on my OEM 230's.
I have had Toyo Proxes 4's, currently have GY F1 asymetrics, and will be going to Conti DWS's by winter time. All have been in 235/265 setups, and work out just fine. |

How is turn in response and traction from a WOT dig? Do you have anything to compare it to besides the stock RFT? Just curious, the A rating on the grip along with the long tread life leads me to believe they dont grip too well in the dry under power.

Are any of you guys lowered, or stock ride height? Any rubbing issues from being lowered?
Just had my 235/265 setup installed this past weekend (michelin ps2). Didn't drive far, but couldn't tell if this setup rubs (as stupid as that sounds, I didn't notice any rubbing from steering response, and beyond that, can't hear due to road noise/engine). |
