Overspray paint on intercooler
I've been doing a few mods based on some excellent tips from this forum, thanks! But I'm hoping I didnt make a stupid noobie move... This weekend I taped my bumper and spray painted my lower grilles black. Yes, I was impatient and the paint brush thing was taking too long. It looks good but as soon as I got done I realized that more than a little paint got behind the grilles and on to the intercooler. Is this going to cause a problem??? what about on the sides too?
Thanks! |

Its hard to see details but there is a considerable amount of paint behind the grilles. Also, I just noticed that these pics make it look like I didnt do a good job, but in person it looks good!
thanks again |

FYI the center mesh is easily removed and installed. Take it off, put a few good coats on it and put it back on. You may even carefully rub some terpentine on your intercooler to get some of that paint off

If you are worried, take the bumper off and use some cleaner on the IC. It takes about 15 minutes to pull the bumper off if you have done it before.

Wouldn't the intercooler lose efficiency if paint got into the fins, much like radiator fins? There is even a tool that exists to straighten those tiny fins, so I think it's important that air is able to flow through.

I'm sure much worse things get in there just from normal driving: bugs, tar, dirt, oil, animal guts/blood or whatever...I wouldn't be too worried but now you know for next time!
