Silent indicators
My indicators have gone silent i.e. no audible sound. It happened last year when the weather got colder and was intermittent lasting days on end then working again.
spoke with the dealer and they had never heard of this problem and are now talking to BMW HQ. Has anyone else had this problem? |

Why don't they just change the sounder?

It's an electroniclly generated sound, along with all the other pings and bongs,
And AFAIK they all use the same sounder, if your other warning sounds are OK then the sounder speaker is ok. My old E90 had a problem where the warning bong (seatbelt etc) became REALLY LOUD. Again the dealers said 'never heard of that before', when it went in for a service shortly afterwards, the noise went back to normal - magic. |

Yes I know. What I meant was why doesn't the dealer simply exchange the plug-in sounder which would very probably fix it rather that this "contacting HQ" as if they'd been asked to split the atom or something.

Thanks for your help guys.
the dealer has come back and said it will need the "whole electronic unit in the dash" replaced and it would be "pretty expensive" (scary when you hear that phrase in a BMW dealership as it usually redefines your previous understanding of the word "expensive"!). Anyway, I have a BMW extended warranty, recently renewed, so I'm covered. Still feels like you guys are right and if I wasn't covered would put up fight to get just the plug in replaced. Cheers |

Had this sorted now under warranty but for anyone else suffering this problem please note that the part alone was just under £600. Wow.
Without the warranty I would easily have got used to silent indicators! |

So this "sounder" would actually be the FRM control unit, which is coded to chassis, and can't be swapped as easy as you make out.
