Diesel Rev tachometer bar

Hey guys

Does the rev counter bar move on the E90 diesels when car warms up? The bars on my E60 530d goes down from 4000rp when cold to 4500rpm when warmed up.

I thought the bars were printed onto the dial face and therefore immovable.
Regardless of any visually indicated maximum, moving or fixed, the rev limiter will cut in as and when necessary.

My M3 does the same - when the car is started from cold the red line is showing at about 5500RPM - as the engine temperature increases the redline gradually moves around until it reaches the 8400RPM max

As you can see from the pic - the red portion is fixed and the orange portion is on a rotating plate

Say no more.

The old rev counter thingy is a nice touch though.

Looks like this function is only available on the 5 series then. That a shame!!! I have alway used those bars on the 5 series to determine if the car was up to normal working temperature. (i.e so I know when I can start to floor it!!!)

Cheers Guys
