E91 Fuel filling

I tried to fill up my E91 325d on tuesday and could not get the nozzle into the fuel filler pipe. I stopped what I was doing and checked that I was not trying to fill the car up with unleaded petrol, but no I was using the right fuel nozzle.
I spent 20min trying to get the nozzle in and using a screw driver to trip the anti syphon gate with no luck.

When I got to work I used two screw drivers to touch the leavers and trip the gate.

On the way home I went to the same fuel station and tried a different pump with no luck, having to trip the gate manually before filling.

Has anyone else had this problem and what have you done to solve the problem?

The car is booked in to the stealers on monday but if I can repair it myself I would prefer to.

Thanks in advance

We had this problem with our 123d on a couple of occasions. If the nozzle on the pertol pump is a bit out of shape it won't allow the anti mis fueling mechanism to open. We found a different garage and it worked OK.

I had this on a couple of occasions from the same pump. It would not let me put normal BP diesel in, but, strangely, would allow BP Ultimate from the next pump. The woman in the filling station claimed that there was something wrong with the pump - meaning that my car "thought" I was trying to fill up with petrol and it was stopping me. She claimed that it had happened on a few occasions.

Tried four seperate fuel stations over the weekend and my filler accepted each nozzle with no problems.
So thanks for the help and advice.

I've had this in my E92 35d.

Sometimes the nozzle just seems reluctant to go in....

Garage List
Yes it's the pump that's probably a bit battered and thus the feature that stops you putting in petrol by accident is doing it's job.

I actually had my dealer replace the whole fuel filler neck under warranty because of this problem only to return to the same garage the next day and find that I still couldn't fill up there!!!

I had this happen to me a couple of times.

If you look at the end of the fuel filler nozzle you'll notice there is a bevel on the front from top to bottom meaning the upper front edge of the nozzle protrudes past the lower edge. I've found that you need to push the upper front edge of the nozzle right up to the top of the filler opening in order to persuade it to open the flap when it's being "fussy".
