Windscreen Washer Motor
Morning all, first post so be kind!
My windscreen / headlight washer system has stopped working. I stupidly used it last night at -5c and as expected everything froze! The result it that today nothing works, no noise from the motor...NOTHING! Any ideas??? |

Mine froze too, -13 so it was inevitable.
Since putting it in my garage which is heated, both headlight washer arms have retracted back into place. Now i've just put double concentrate screenwasher fluid in, neat, from halfords. That should do it unless the mechanism is faulty. Any ideas what fuse it is for the 335d coupe just in case. I thought our fuses (48?) control something else too? |

Are you getting any noise from the motor? I'm getting nothing at all, although its outside work and its about -2 so no chance really of it defrosting! I had a look around and also noticed that it appears to be fuse 48?

No motor noise for me once it had frozen.
Try and get it thawed, maybe park in the sun, top up with concentrate, neat. Halfords claims it works down to -23, that might un block the frozen washer. Best to try and get it thawed as warm water will still freeze. Don't forget it will only fire on the 5th spray when the lights are switched on. |

The motor stops working when the temp drops to prevent you from smearing shite over the windscreen when the washer fluid won't come out. As above hot water will sort it

Well it doesn't stop shite being smeared everywhere as the wipers still drive even with no water.

My motor whined away this AM when I tried it a couple of times despite the temp gauge saying -10c.
Got no screenwash though as it appeared to be froze. Checked tonight and the cheapo Tesco screenwash only works to -5 undiluted ffs. Guess that's why it's cheap then. |

if the water is frozen completely, then the pumps impellor won't be able to turn... which means you won't hear it...
however if you hang on the stalk hoping for something... then it's goodnight mr fuse... ian b |

Would never do that myself as it will just re-freeze. Just waited for warmer weather which we got today, a balmy -1. Now mine are working as normal. Will have to get some of the Halfords stuff though.
Btw are the washer jets heated on these cars? |

Found out only the nozzles are heated so if you have frozen water in the pipes then not much is gonna get out even if you put in more dilluted wash.
Also found out that the Halfords double concentrate stuff comes in 3 different fragrances, how quaint! |
