Robbery in '03

This is a little weird. Ran into it while flipping through CL.

Quote:
When I was 15 years old In December '03, I was working the street near T's bar on Congress and Summit. I got pregnant, and was going to have it "taken care of". There were two guys that picked me up one night, after I had already made two hundred bucks. They were going to be my last bill for the three hundred dollar surgery, and I was going to get it done that week. One was white and the other was Hispanic or maybe Italian and they were both in their early 20's and thin. They were in a small truck and I sat in between them. They drove me to a playground in some neighborhood nearby, and after they had sex with me, they robbed me and stranded me there. Because of that I broke down and told my mother I was pregnant and ended up keeping the baby. He is six now, and probably the only reason I left that lifestyle. I haven't sold myself in years....and as silly as it sounds, I really believe that God in some way allowed that to happen so that I wouldn't abort and would have my son so that my life could get better. So if you're one of those guys---thank you so much. I would probably be dead in some ditch by now if that night hadn't happened. And my wonderful son would not be alive today. I want to give you the biggest hugs I possibly could. Please message me if you're one of them. You have no idea how much that negative deed of yours turned around to be a wonderful thing for me.

Valerie

P.S.---I've gotten more than one email with people "claiming" to be one of these guys. First off, lying like that is disgusting and pointless. So to weed out any more of these, if you're one of these guys and you email me, tell me about the first time we met. I had met these guys once before, but didn't realize it until it was too late the second time. They had picked me up for sex before with two other friends of theirs, and if you can describe what happened that time, I'll believe you.

That's a beautiful and heartwarming story. Very timely for Christmas.

And as a bonus point - she's now of legal drinking age!

bitch was working the street when she was 15? Parents need to start teaching their daughters about the kitchen earlier in life i guess.

Let's float the idea that "you can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you'll get what you need".

God does change people. Frequently those who are the most grateful are those who had sunk the lowest before he lifted them up. Those who don't need Jesus are far less likely to find him.

Probably everyone here has heard that it is more difficult for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle (that possibly meaning that the camel must be relieved of it's burden and crawl through the passage on it's knees).

Is it so inconceivable that a troubled person would be grateful for a wrong that was done to them that ended up being a turning point for them? And she loves the child. If she had aborted the child, it would be dead and she would not have that joy.

i think her pursuit to find the people responsible to thank them is the troubling part.

everyone has 20/20 hindsight.

Yes. I'll agree with that. No need to try to reward those who did you harm even if that ultimately was to your benefit. Forgiving them could very well make sense, but to honor them... naw. And to seek them out to meet out revenge (as someone else suggested) makes even less sense under the circumstances.

It's more a story of how a person in awful circumstance can be set right by one last awful event that directed a new path.

I'll try an analogy: You had a horrible start to your day. Nothing went right. You didn't get enough sleep last night. You hit the snooze alarm too many times. You ran short on gasoline and had to stop to fill up on the way to the office. You were in such a hurry you were ticketed for speeding. All the traffic lights were against you. There was no parking where you normally were able to park, so you had to park much further away. You were nearly run over by a speeding car while walking to your office building... etc. And one last thing... you were mugged. Because you needed to have treatment for an injury suffered in the mugging, you were so late to the office that you were not in the World Trade Center tower when it was first struck. You thank God for giving you one last chance at life.
