Hi all,

When I had my x5, I read on the x5 members forum of a webasto heater that is present on the diesel version, this was to warm the diesel if it got too cold. This could also be used with a remote to turn the heater on before you get in the car to warm the car and engine up (rather then starting the car)... Does anyone know if the E90 320d has something similar?

Alternatively does anyone have other solutions for warming the car up in a morning before you get in? ATM I start the car and lock it manually with the metal key out of the plastic fob...

I had a webasto heater in my range rover. It worked via remote and uses the diesel supply to heat the car. It doesn't start the car or the engine. The same heater is used in boats and trucks, so if you search *bay you'll pick one up cheap. You're local garage should be able to fit if not a landrover specialist.

So the e90 diesels dont have one in them like the x5 does?

No, and not an option in the series for the UK either.

Current HVAC systems have a PTC (electic element) to aid faster cabin warm up, but needs the car running, as it comes under the energy management control.

I guess I'll have to stick to starting it and manually locking with the metal key! Lol

My little Audi A2 had on infact all diesel A2s have them, as the cabin heater matrix is too small to heat the cabin in winter.

These heaters are often more hassle than they are worth, many fail at 4-5 years old....which is a shame.

Ah the good old Positive Temperature Coefficient element!

You don't need to mess about with the metal bit out of the key and the manual door lock.

You can start leave the engine running and remove the key and lock the car with the remote button in the normal fashion.

Do the following:

Unlock car and get in
Door must be closed
Insert key and start car (with foot on brake as usual)
KEEP FOOT ON BRAKE!!
Stop car (foot STILL on brake)
Remove Key (foot STILL on brake
Re-start car and then take foot off brake

Switch on bum warmers, screen on full demist, rear screen on defrost and then get out and lock the car with the key as normal.
