Thumbs up Went Back To Laguna Seca!

Laguna Seca is one of my favorite tracks to drive--hands down.
It's fast. It has some great elevation changes and it's so smoothe.
I went to test out a set of 2 piece rotors and the results were outstanding.
I'll be conducting a detailed write up in the brake section soon.

My best lap was 1:51.3 and I was the quickest car in my group. To give you an idea with what cars were in my group, there were 3 vipers, a Porsche Cayman S, Lexus ISF, e46 M3, and so on.

After my second session, my front wastegate decided to stick open and it made me think about what else can happen with this car.
I got it to unstick before my last session but then it decided to stick again when I left the track.
I know I drive it hard, but it really makes me think about how nice an e90 M3 would be during these times--no HPFP, no wastegates--just engine.
Anyways, here's a vid:

EDIT

I think i found the reason why the wastegate stuck.
There is a heat shield in between the block and wastegate linkage and the heat shield was extremely close to the linkage.
It makes me believe that the linkage was binding on the shield.
I pryed the shield closer to the block to make more space in between and it hasn't binded yet.

Nice.

Are those the tires chirping when you release the clutch on the downshifts?

Thats what I live for....awesome run. Sounds great shifting through the gears...were you running meth throughout the run or without? Also can you list your break setup, you were crushing everyone in the corners bc of breaking, your entry speeds were a lot better than the other guys..

Probably. I wasn't heal/toe downshifting or anything and I was on street tires.
So, I was braking and downshifting at the same time.

Thanks. I'm sure they weren't pushing it as hard as they could have though.
But then again, maybe they were the old vipers. I don't know.

Hi Mr. 5. I was wondering if you can please tell me how much your rims were and the total cost. I am thinking about getting them for my black 07' 328i. Thank you.

nice racing man, looked like a blast, but boy do you need upp'd turbos Mr. 5. just look at your G's drop at redline (of course using the straight flat sections). I have a perf. steering wheel, so i too monitor my g's. your wastegate issue would be solved (with the proper kit) and it would be a helluva lot cheaper and easier than selling the car and starting a new. dude, i remember back in the day when we were all noobs and i checked out your wastegate fix thread, it saved my stockers and saved many others. all im saying is you've been in this game for a while, why not step it up to the next level, you wont be sorry. i know the sound difference of upgraded turbos is enough to get them, let alone the hard pull to redline. there are many kits out now, you know the brands, im sure you have done a bit of research on the subject.

You are selling your DR setup? You should use them one more time at Famoso next month. Bunch of us are going on Feb 12th for a semi-private track rental. Looks like you got your clutch issue resolved...a new clutch?

Great racing your and car seems to be pretty dialed in.

I think you would be bored with a car that doesn't require constant attention (just kidding) no Im not. Looks like the aftermarket is slowly fixing the problems BMW should have got right.

You have a nice daily driver/track car that competes well with some impressive vehicles and some driving skills to boot.

nice video. just as a casual observer who also is a track rat.

1) u really should heel toe. ur putting a shit load of stress on ur clutch, flywheel, and synchros. ask me how I know - i blew my 3rd gear synchro, clutch and pressure plate on my e46 m3 because of my dumbass not knowing how to heel toe. definitely do it, or else ur going to be paying for a transmission.

2) ur driving great! never been on Laguna Seca, but its a dream. i dunno about the guy saying you are beating up on vipers. definitely their drivers though! ur car is certainly quick! remember vipers are handfuls to drive. i am considering picking one up this summer, but i fear that it will be too much.

3) why don't u get yourself an e46 m3. i guarantee with coilovers, track pads, and some r comps u will run faster than ur 335. and u won't have any reliability issues. or if u want to stick w/the current bmws, get urself a 128i. its got the same weight and engine potential as e36 m3s, and I am sure with a suspension u will be having a GREAT time out there. an e90 m3 is way too expensive to be beating up on a track. the consumables will cost u an arm and a leg. its too heavy to be a >10 track days a year weapon.

Yah, I don't know.
Then you still have the HPFP, injectors, mucked up valves from the DI.
Still thinking about it though.

No, those are sold.
They were used for that day but the OD was a little too big for my taste.

Points well taken and thanks for the props.
Heal/toe I practice on the street but it takes some balls to do it on the track.
I've done it on the track before and my times are always slower.
It's just hard to get that pressure with the arch of the foot.
I used to have an e46 M3 but then needed a 4 door because of the baby.
A used e90 M3 has never looked better.

I was just going to say your not heal toe driving on a race course.... thats odd?

I heal-toe daily driving, I would expect it on a race course even more to keep things smooth and in check.

The downshift chirps are detrimental on the drivetrain over time.

Cool vid though, I watched the whole thing.

Use those brakes! You should be able to brake in a shorter distance, brake harder, without suffering any fade issues. Took me a while to figure that out and the difference is night and day. Those rotors will keep the brakes cool and in the proper operating range even if you compress your braking.
