No idrive for 320i, 325i & 330i?
Hello All...
i'm getting excited day by day reading posts on the forum by u guys. cant wait to get my E90 soon. Too sad to know from the dealership that for Malaysia market, there'll be no i-drive for all models. what a ashame BMW Malaysia! fyi, we are paying US70,736.00 for an entry 320i with basic features. buying a car here in Malaysia at cut-throat price and comes without satisfactorily features is madness!!!! we are like slave to our dream car...its really sickening! when approach the sales guy, the reason for no i-drive is b'cos there's no satellite system available, so there'll be no i-drive for malaysia even if you pay US100K for a 330i model! what donkey business is BMW doing for the Malaysia? And the Government is a blood sucker too btw! The highest tax sucker within the Asian countries! damn!!! |

It's not so much the cost of the car, it's the Government taxes and fees in Malaysia.
It is what it is. Hey, if you're big pimpin' in KL, what are you gonna do? Cruise in a Proton? I don't think so. |

That place is out outta' control! I was there for a month last year and just looking at the car prices in the paper made me choke...The local dealer wanted 54 grand for a 2001 Camry..thats US Dollars by the way! Accord, 58 grand..that for an LX...For s*#ts and grins, I priced a MB E320...97,000 bucks...NO JOKE...not to mention a BigMac was 8 bucks, but that another story....How do you guys do it out there?!
And I thought it was bad that the UK charges us Color TV Tax! |

It's the Malaysian governmental policy to protect their fledgling automobile industry, so they put on ridiculous amounts of taxes and fees on imports.

Nevertheless, CBU units still subjected to high taxes here except for the CKD models (Made in Thailand) or locally assembled units will be priced a little cheaper due to the newly implemented "Government Tax" instead of the reduced Import Tax previously imposed. so its back to square ones... |

I know exactly how u feel Bimmer325. I'm Malaysian too (chinese of course)and it disgusts me how we have to pay through our noses for a decent car. So the e90s from Thailand are considered CKD and as such wouldn't be manufactured locally? I'm actually living in Australia but planning to return home next year, allowing me to bring home a car tax free. e90 for some reason hasn't been launched here in OZ, but i would expect the 325 to cost AUD70K minimum which of course is still considerably cheaper than the astronomical RM 330K pricetag in M'sia. I was hoping for the prices to drop if there are plans for the e90 to be produced locally?

fyi, the last batch of CKD E46 sold in March was priced at RM256,700. but this 2004 model includes lots of extras as they were soon replaced by the current E90. and if you look at the E90 CBU now priced at RM268,800 for a basic 320i with miserable features given, the different would not be too significant when the CKD version introduced in 8 months' time. so, brudder, need not to wait and the answer is you can go ahead to order your E90 tomorrow as it would still be relatively cheaper than purchase locally. |

Thanks for your input Bimmer325, it's much appreciated. But how accurate are your sources because according to BMW Malaysia, there are no concrete plans as yet to manufacture the e90 in Malaysia, no thanks to the ridiculous excise duty imposed by the government in its feeble and lame attempt to protect Proton.
If the AFTA has already been inplemented begining this year, how come Proton is still considerably cheaper compared to the Japanese and Korean cars manufactured in ASIAN countries ? I thought the excise duty is the same across the board? Can't wait for the e90 to be launched here in Australia |

BMW is pushing towards its sales to 2000 units of E90 by this year end for the CBU units, and if any CKD plans are revealed at this time around people would rather wait for it b'cos they are cheaper. It happened when 530i CBU was launched in 2003/4 & the CKD followed later was and still is cheaper by nearly RM30K.
Most of the Korea cars now in Malaysia is cheaper, they are priced btw RM50-70K depending on the C.C of engine. The new tax structure categoried by the size of the cars. the smaller the lower the bigger the higher the tax. that's why most of the 1600cc protons are well within the RM50-60K bracket... |
