US M Sport Trim

I was just looking again at the M Sport option on the 550i. It cannot be configured with the dark wood trim. Is there a dealer override on that particular option.

Have most gone with the anthracite trim? Just curious, is the light wood trim nice with black leather interior?

From what I have learned when I was ordering mine is that it is not available. I had the dark wood trim on my previous 550i.

I was going to go with the anthracite trim, as my color was Carbon Black with Black Leather and it just seemed to jive real well. Then I was shown the hexagon aluminum trim. It works very well with the performance M image and for me took the interior from comfy and clean to sporty and performance. I suggest you check it out before ordering anything.

I agree, this trim does add a really sporty feel to the car.

I love the look of the dark wood and leather thought. Its almost Sport with black and dark wood or m sport and alum. trim. BMW looks like it wants to keep m sport very sporty

Yes I agree. I don't much care for the straight aluminum trim, but the hexagon has almost a carbon fiber hexagon look with a lacquered finish, I was sold when I saw it.

I think it does just the trick, and realized its not the same material i thought it was.

In Canada it is called Ash Wood trim (your dark wood) versus Ash Wood trim, high gloss (your light wood) - go figure. But, you can select the Ash Wood when selecting M-Sport. Good 'ol BMW trying to out think their consumers.

Believe it or not, the BMW NA configurator gives a pretty good image of it 'hexagon trim' if you zoom in on the interior when looking "inside" the car.

Just went for the hexagon. It's not as handsome as carbon fiber but I like the look.

If you have not seen it in person I suggest you see it before you order. I thought I'd like it and then I saw it at the car show and changed my mind.

Agree, carbon fiber is amazing but the hexagon is really performance looking for a 550 msport. I had dark wood in my first 550 I liked it but it had more of a luxury sedan look then a barn burner!

It was NOT available as an option on the UK configuration program however the dealer put in my requirement and it came through here.

Nah, got to disagree with you, the fake err faux wood does and am happy to get away from the old man trim. This isnt a mercedes for crying out load. The hexagon trim is definately performace oriented and the laquer finish is hot. No scratches either like the fake wood trim.

Here is an upclose of the hexagon imbedded design.

For Msport this trim is hot! With Carbon Black and black leather ... HOT DAMN!

Whatever floats your boat man. If you like paneling in a 400hp Msport then go for it. I did too (had one with it and liked it, dark wood) until I got a chance to see this hexagon trim and thought it looked outstanding given the Msport mojo, agressive / power. Wood to me, although nice, is comfy / mature. "It fits", imo.

I did see it. I'm not loving it but am just not wanting the plastic coated veneer, seems out of place in the M Sport.

I believe its real wood in the Bimmers. A piece of real wood is finshed and fitted to the panel. I have always loved the wood interiors in the BMW 5 series. I think the new 5, with the fitted chrome like edge is finshed off very nicely.

The metal is nice too. Both are real and both serve there purpose. Now i am getting a 6 speed manual, so i think that the metal might look even better on a standard. any pics guys?

I am with you on the plastic covered veneer, I had the dark wood in my 550i non Msport with black sapphire. The trim IS nice but when I went with the Carbon Black and Msport it seemed out of place personally. I mean veneer with the M symbol in the interrior.

The hexagon looks like a woven fabric encased in resin to me.

To be honest this was a decision I agonized over.

The veneer (which no doubt is real wood) looks good, just very predictable as standard on a luxury car. I felt the hexagon is just more appropriate for the M Sport.

At it's best I agree, "The hexagon looks like a woven fabric encased in resin to me." kinda depends on how the light hits it.

Yes, some of us are all saying the same thing. I'm comfortable with the decision.

I think for me, its a moot decision. I might be going regular sport and takign advantage of the dark wood trim. I first saw it on an x5 and felt it was impressive.

BUt to each his own. Thats the beauty of BMW, its not a predetermined thing like Acura, Lexus or Infiniti. You can't even choice a wood or sport trim on the Acura Tl awd, and that is a 45,000 car...
