The Ipad does not.
The amperage is not high enough on the USB. I bought a cigarette lighter to USB converter from Apple. It cost something like 25 euro, but gives 1000 mA. Which charges the Ipad just fine! |

My iPod stays in the car almost all of the time and plugged in. It never needs charging beyond that.

A slightly different question is whether the iPod charges when the car is switched off. Anybody know? It's a little hard to tell, because there is more than one state of "off" — there's the state when the car has just been switched off, and then the deeper sleep that comes a few minutes later after the doors are closed and locked. Finding out what happens then is a little like trying to find out whether the refrigerator light goes out when the door is closed.

Overall answer is yes, but do not think there is any charging when the car is turned off. In addition, I beleive the software shuts the i-pod down when fully shut down. I do notice that every time I re-sync to my home computer, the Nano is fully charged.
Just wish I could figure out whether there is something I can do to change the fact that all my Album songs were changed to Alphabetical order ever since I downloaded Apple's latest 1.1 software version. Not a huge deal, but am so used to songs being in the track album order. |

next time you wash the car with all OFF leave the armrest open and you'll see after about 10 mins you should see the BMW logo on the ipod goes away as the ipod goes to sleep...if you wake the ipod you should also see it is not charging anymore. in answer to the original question....yep ipods always charge when connected and car is ON. my ipod also lives in the armrest permanently and never have to bring it out to charge it only to put new music on it. |

I know its not the same topic but i stopped to use my ipod touch 64gb because i get crawdles and interference noise all the time in the music. With my 120 gb usb portable hard disk i get the some music but without the interference noise.
The question is: is it adefault from the bmw system or the ipod? |
