528i lost radio presets and seat memory

When I got in my car this evening and started it, I found that all of my radio presets had been lost and the radio was not tuned to a station, just static. I also noticed that my seat memory settings had been lost. When I got back in the car later in the evening, the radio presets were back, but the seat memory settings were still missing. Anyone else have this problem. My car is two month old 2011 528i Sport with 2300 miles on it.

Did you use different key-remotes each time?

That's an interesting question. I hadn't thought of that. I have key-less entry and the transmitter was in my pants pocket as it always is. My wife was in the car with me. She has a transmitter in her purse, which she always puts in the trunk. It's possible the car picked up her transmitter first and used a blank profile instead of mine. She has never driven the car or set up a profile so her's would be the factory default. If that is what happened, it's odd it never happened before as she has ridden in the car with me maybe a dozen times before.

I have read that your profile settings stay with your remote. I have not tested this myself but perhaps that is the cause here.

I believe that the memorized profile works with the remote that unlocks the door not the one that is "running" the car. Therefore, if your wife unlocked the car with her remote and then put her purse in the trunk, it is her profile that you are using.

The same thing happened to me...got in and everything was erased. I usually use only one key-remote but I went running and grabbed the other one since it has no keys on it. I put the key ring back on the "other" remote and thought there was something seriously wrong when I went out a little later and everything was erased.......just tried the "normal" key-remote and everything is back...so yes the profiles are saved in each key remote....I love it! Leave it to BMW! Thank you for this forum or I would have had no idea!!

I've had the same thing happen to me.
Apologies if it's somewhere in the manual, but does anyone know how to transfer the profile from the primary to the secondary key? I'd like to have both the same and rotate them in order to even up the battery life.

The profiles are only loosely coupled to a key. All you have to do is lock the car and whatever profile was selected when the car was locked will be recalled when the car is unlocked with that particular key.

So, lock car with key 1. Then open with key 1 and lock with key 2 to copy the profile from key 1 to key 2. This sequence inadvertently corrupts most peoples profiles when they did not expect it.

Or, more correctly, lock car with key 1 on the profile you want. Next, open the car with key 2 and then power on and select the profile you want for key 2. Then power off and lock car with key 2.

There are other combos that may work too.

The same thing happened to me with the pre-sets a couple of times during the first two weeks after I first got my F10 550 in December 2010. After that, it never happened again. No issue with two keys - I only use one.
