Just had my 535 reflashed. I'm sorry that I had it done.

The dealer wanted to check if the HPFP that was replaced in January was the current updated pump and also wanted to inspect if any injectors needed replacing.
So they didn't touch the pump cause it was already the new version and they replaced 3 injectors but they said they reflashed the ECU.

Now the car feels just like the 530 that I just sold.

I'm pissed of and really hate the way the car runs.
I heard some people complain about their car's having less power after this was done and now I understand what they were talking about.
The car feels like a sled.
That spirited throttle response is GONE. That's what I liked most about the way the car drove compared to the 530. Give the car just a little gas and it was going 40 mph in no time.

I hope that this will change after I drive it for a while.

they probably just reset all the adaptations..give it some time to adapt and it should get better.

Same thing happened to me with my 335i. I went in with a tune and they changed the HPFP and reflash the car. I just got it reflash with my flash loader and everything is great again!

If you had pre 29.x software, your recent flash makes the wastegates stay open as a preemptive fix for rattle. You can have the tech perform something called a "wastegate retrofit" that restores original wastegate function. I had this done after a software update that introduced lag and it restored most of the original performance.

Or you can get a tune.

My Cobb AP will be here tomorrow. I can't wait.

Will the tune take care of these issues or

do you think I should get the wastegate retrofit done anyways?

Best thing is to try the AP tomorrow and leave the dealer alone if you're satisfied. You can always effortlessly uninstall and go back for the retrofit.

Your car is crying out for a tune. Get one and this annoyance will be a thing of the past.

The same thing happened to me with my 335. It does get better after a bit of driving but, the lag is still very noticeable and I swear it never makes as much power. I think I'm going the same route as the OP...

Same story here as well. After many calls to BMWNA and no satisfaction, I went to Dinan with a stage 2 flash. Very happy now, it seems to return the car back to it's original glory and even more so!

When they reflash your car, it resets all your cars adaptations. Drive it like you did before and the car will adapt to the same settings. But as everyone else was saying, drop a tune in that sled. I had my ECU reprogrammed by OE in December and do not regret it one bit!

Maybe an adaptation issue, give it a few miles to see.....what's baffling is that why, if you weren't complaining would the dealer even touch your car? If I owned my car until the end of days there's NO WAY my dealer would want to check a pump they already replaced and inspect injectors just because.....weird.

I'm surprised there is such a difference in the dealer reflash. Hopefully its just an adaptation issue!!

I found out that it was a manditory Vehicle Emission Recall no. 10E-A02.
With that being done, they also gave me a Proof of Corrections slip that is required by DMV. Typical California crap.

The dealer called and said there is a Service Bulletin out for a " Wastegate Retrofit " which they will do next Monday. Another software install, but they claim that this should fix the problem.

I just want the car to be right in stock form, before I install Cobb Stage 1.

Good that your dealer is informed about the wastgate conversion, I had to fight with mine for a month and then argued with one of the team lead tech who apologized after he found he was wrong.

But don't expect it to be back to way it was. It's a big improvment over the not retrofit performance but it's maybe 90% of what it used to be. I posted some wastgate duty cycle logs and you can see the differences in the behavior if you want.

I took my car in today for a brake warning light and they said they were going to flash the car, install new fuel pump, and install new injectors due to recall... I told them I didn't want them to reflash the car because I have the Dinan software and they said they could just replace the fuel pump and injectors without the flash... glad I did now... =P

... and get a tune...
