Any one has replaced the 325i air box to 330i?

I realized the European 325i has the same air boc as 330i, but US. Any one has replaced or plan to replace their 325i air box to a 330i one?

What part do you mean when you say airbox ?

If you mean the part where the air filter goes: The USA 325i and 330i have exactly the same one

If you mean the 3 stage variable length intake ducts the 330i has : you cannot fit it to the USA 325i because you dont have the wiring or the ECU to control the intake

I meant the part for air filter. I am sure they aren't the same.
330i has the cone air filter, but 325i has panel air filter. And the design of the air box, 330i one looks better. I will post photos of my 325i one later on today.

You are confusing European and USA cars

USA cars all have the flat filter.

All European 6 Cylinders have the Cone Filter and the airbox with metal studs all round

really? I thought I saw the airbox with matal studs all around on a 330i in dealer's show room. Maybe....I remember it wrong..

From what i hear the cone shap filter makes it easier for the car to breath, but i don't have any dino proof.

Well, people in the US have been replacing their stock airboxes for cone filter setups for years. The BMW cone filter looks pretty nice; factory fit and finish, cold air ducted with a bit of a ram effect going on. Pop out the paper and replace it with a nice ITG foam filter and it would be pretty slick... probably even sounds nice and nasty* to boot!

WTF would be the point of this? You sound like some of the other RSX guys I talk to that want to make their RSX "JDM Spec". That is, exactly like the Japanise Domestic Market model. It's a silly, pointless, ricey thing to do.

Given the apparent performance advantages of the Euro spec E90s, we are not being illogical to consider what the rationale is for the different boxes. If some mome decided that a quieter but less efficient box was what the USA luxury oriented market wanted, and changed our specs for that reason, then I would want to investigate what the consequences of switching to a freer flow system might be.

Aftermarket? Maybe. It would be nice to see a comparison test. I think BMW has some of the top engineers in the world working to maximize the potential of their stuff. That said, they may be working with constraints that are not our priorities (e.g., sound vs. power, supplier issues, etc.), creating a niche for the aftermarket.

Why would BWM spend $500,000 on new tooling and engineering resources to make a US Spec air box?

My guesses:
1. to make the car quieter for US tastes.
or
2. to be able to use a flat fiter so that the flat carbon filter can be installed to pass USA emmissions.
or
3. because they like to spend money on engineering and tooling for fun (hey, they're German

).

The intake manifold is different, but the wiring and ECU is exactly the same b/t the US 325i and 330i. The software setting that runs on the ECU is probably different.
