Matt Schnell vs. AR vs. AA vs. iCarbon vs. CPE vs. ETS???
These are supposedly some of the better downpipes on the n54 market...
so the problem is...which set? Please please please don't tell me which ones without a reason. |

AR!
Reason: 1. they have the best bends that allow the downpipes to clear the underside of the car perfectly without rattling 2. the clamp slips on easily and can be closed halfway so the downpipes are attached to the turbo while you can still move them around to align them properly 3. the downpipes line up perfectly with the stock exhaust system 4. tons of consumers out there with them and no problems |

They're just pipes. No mufflers, no sound tuning, just pipes. As long as the fitment is good, flanges/welds are quality and the bungs are good, any difference is negligible. I'm very happy with my $275 PLM downpipes and extra money that I put towards an IC.

Well I guess that's where I'm torn. Why spend more on AR rather than Matt Schnells? Why spend more on Matt Schnells rather than PLM?
I've been on the forum a while now and I just don't understand... |

I guess the questions is how good you are at gambling! If there were to be a problem with one of these popular companies whos going to back up their product? Those said manufactures. If you have a problem with the ebay one.... do you have the patience and phone number to get in touch with someone and will the problem be resolved? Hey now. I didnt pick those companies to sell cause I thought there were good "junk" to sell. They are good products! |

Replaced 2.5” DPs with 3” DPs—Dynos Included! http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=316974 Plenty of dynos to base facts from, he's still pulling impressive numbers today.

haha sorry about the misspelling. I'm extremely lucky by the way... OK, so this thread was helpful and not at the same time. Not in a bad way! Thanks to everyone that replied. |

You are over thinking this, its a piece of pipe, as long as it fits get the cheapest one. I have had high end downpipes on this car 800 plus, and now I run a pair of 250 plm downpipes, it fits the same, it sounds the same, it pulls the same. You actually might be faster with the 800 dollar ones due to weight reduction from your wallet though...

IF it fits... IF is the keyword. Thats is pretty much the only gamble people are taking. Although quality is inconsistent sometimes on the Ebay Style. Let me know if anything I'm saying you dont agree with. |

plm pipes fit fine. However if you get a set that doesnt fit, you day is pretty much ruined and will result in rage. Worked for me and every thread I read on those pipes, people say the same thing.

I think alot of these decisions go back to whether you think of this as a commodity like toilet paper...It almost doesnt matter what TP you buy just buy the cheapest one that doesnt chaffe your ass. OR,...do you think of it like shoes or clothes. Do you wear $1.99 Walmart flip flops or nice Nordstrom leather shoes? If you value quality and feel like most things you get what you pay for then spend the money on better quality stuff. Although a higher price is NOT a reason to buy a product,..I would set a budget and buy the best quality product in your budget. If your budget is $1.99 well then we know where you will be shopping. Some people shop at Nordstroms and some at Walmart,...and others like me shop at BOTH,...but NEVER for the same thing.

Saving money is nice, but I guarantee you that you will regret saving a couple of hundred dollars when you're underneath the car and realize that there simply is no way these fit...
I'm not saying you have to spend $700 on downpipes. But if you're gonna get anything then you better make sure it fits |
