What features does IDrive give the driver EXCLUSIVE of the navigation?

I know this has been asked many times before in different ways. What does IDrive give the driver that you CANNOT get without IDrive

Two examples that I know of are:

Pressure in each tire at any point
Addresses of contacts from a Bluetooth phone (that is compatible of course)
A text readout of any “!” alerts (Low oil, washer fluid, etc…)

This are the ones that I could gather out of the online Owners manual.

Also is IDrive completely upgradeable, meaning is it possible that more features will be offered in the future with an upgrade/flash

Please advise if there are many more features, as it may be something for me to add if it does more than I think it can.

06 330i, 6spM, Alpine White, Grey, Aluminum, PP, Sport, Cold, CA, ordered 9.19.05, build week #43, delivery date hopefully sometime prior to Christmas… Taking Performance Center Delivery in Spartanburg

I have visual PDC for both front and rear, can visually see the different radio stations available, select different CD's etc.

For settings, you can set whether you want live traffic information or not, set door locks, lighting, entertainment settings, and can also check all the car's systems such as brake pads, oil, tyre pressures, when next service is expected, spark plugs, etc...

You can adject how far your headlights go and the sensitivity level adjusting headlights. In other words, how much your headlights turn when you turn the steering wheel. Also, you can set if you what Daytime Running Lights on or off.

Through iDrive, you can set the air recirculation to come on in your parked car at two different times a day to blow all the hot stale air out of the car. I don't know if this is possible on a non-iDrive car.

It also fully integrates with the video iPod, letting you watch movies, TV shows and music videos on the nav screen while controlling the iPod with the iDrive knob.

Umm. No. Sorry, that was actually a dream I had...

To address this question, we should also look at the IT infrastructure in the E90.

E90s with professional navigation (and hence with iDrive) come with the high version of the on board audio/communication computer, the CCC.

Cars without professional navigation come with the basic computer, M-ASK.

The computer is connected to the MOST network and is responsible for all AV functionality (radio, sat radio, CD, MP3), iDrive, telephone, VR, and Navigation capabilties.

Europe always has cool stuff like traffic updates and TV capabilities. In the US BMW is not supplying traffic updates. I believe the only cars in the US with that option (as of this posting) are Acura's.

Also, in the US we only have rear PDC but the rear indicator is visual in iDrive.

Are you sure, I swear I read somewhere that US models where able to adjust more heat in the heated seats to the back region vs the bottom of the seat, etc.

I know there is more control with the HVAC too.

You can not control the heated seats from Idrive, at least not in my car. Not everybody gets heated seats so I guess they figured it wasn't necessary. It is a nice touch to control the climate through Idrive but I never really use it...

My old 745i had the feature to adjust the heat distribution on the seats. The 330 doesnt.

On the climate menu you can adjust where air blows and the strength (high/med/low)

Yes it does...It's part of Sirius and is available for every major US city.

No, sorry. XM is offering this (I think in conjunction with on Acura) but Sirius has not (yet) launched a traffic information or TMC like offering. It would be great to have though.

I´ve heard the Acura one doesn´t work that well though.

In Europe, I´ve used TMC and it is great!
