Rendering looks better than the Accord crosstour but otherwise this seems pointless.

BMW 4 Series?

Interesting chops from Auto Express. I don't know how close this is to the real thing but it sure looks good, one of BMW's better recent efforts.

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/au...4ab15716bb139d

Quote:
It's an all-new name for an all-new car – meet the BMW 4-Series! That’s the fresh badge which will adorn a stunning new five-door hatch, Auto Express has learned.

Based on the next-generation 3-Series, due in 2012 in saloon and Touring form, our spies have already snapped the new car out testing. That’s let us produce these illustrations, which show how
the production model will look.

But instead of carrying the 3-Series GT badge as was initially thought, BMW will sit the model further apart, pitching it between the new 3-Series and the 5-Series.

While it gets a new name, it will follow the formula set down by its bigger brother, the 5-Series GT, with a more premium experience than the car on which it’s based. There will be a raised seating position for those in the rear, plus the option of two or three seats in the back. It will also get a two-stage tailgate that can be hinged either at the bootlid or opened like a hatchback.

Complement

The model will complement the 3-Series range, which is set to include a saloon, coupé, estate and cabriolet, and take the fight directly to Audi’s A5 Sportback.

From the front, the 4-Series will borrow heavily from the 5-Series with its wide kidney grille and slim headlights. Towards the back, the swooping roofline will provide ample headroom, but also a sporty profile – a look helped by the short overhangs.

As with the 3-Series Touring, the 4-Series will be based on a stretched version of BMW’s new rear-wheel-drive platform to maximise interior space. MacPherson front suspension and a multi-link rear layout, as well as the latest generation electric power-steering system, will maintain the level of driver involvement BMW customers expect, but with the emphasis more on comfort than the 3-Series.

All-wheel-drive xDrive versions will be available too, while the engine choice will feature the latest four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel units, including the new 245bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol introduced on the X1.

BMW is developing a three-cylinder petrol engine, too, capable of 75mpg and producing less than 100g/km of CO2. But the firm is still deliberating whether to fit it to the new 3 and 4-Series.

Our sources say the firm will wait until after the 3-Series to launch the 4-Series, so expect it to go on sale in 2014.

I donīt really beleave that an 4er Series would come!

But one thing must be clear ... if BMW decides to bring an 4er Series this would meen that all Coupes/Convertibles would come als 4er ... never the 4er Series would be an 4-door Coupe Series only.

This would meen:

3er Series: F30 ... F31 ... F34 (GT)
4er Series: F32 ... F33 ... F35 (GranCoupe)

I think you're overthinking it. BMW really can do whatever they want. If they want just a 4GT then they have just a 4GT. You see that thing really becoming a convertible? That would be an atrocity.

To me this seems that BMW is leaving room for this car to be a flop as to save the 3er name. No and we know that NO 3er has EVER been shitty. With 20+ years of awards and accolades for the 3er why risk tarnishing the name over a controversial vehicle? This GT would be the first 3er flop and considering the 5GT hasn't been flying off the lots it would be smart for BMW to save face.

BMW could also cruise right back to having a traditional 3er touring(at least in the US) once the 4GT starts to tank. And it WILL tank.

fuck it I'm going to continue my rant. This car is complete garbage. I've seen about 2 5GT's on the actual road that people actually bought. That car looks ridiculous. Now ask yourself as this car has been out long enough. Do you like the Honda Crosstour? Hell NO! That car is stupid ugly. Well that's is the same idea as these damn GT's BMW is bringing. You wanna know why this car is a bad idea? Because HONDA made a copy. Honda copies everything, it's what they do. You don't see Merc or Audi lining up to make a competitive car to fight the GT. That's because they think this car is shit and their right! I get the X6 because it's kind of fun in its own right. But again who copied that car and no one else???? Anyone? FUCKING HONDA! Damn this GT sucks balls and any of you that actually kind of like it need to have your eyes spooned out of your skulls.

Get your head out of your ass BMW! Bring the touring to the US. Maybe if you spent more then a dime marketing the touring and brought more then just the 328i/xi touring the car would sell more units in the US you shitheads.

I found this just to see if Merc or Audi was making a possible competitor.

This is Merc's take on their 5GT dubbed the CLS Shooting Break...

If anyone can't see that this is just a bad ass, 4 seat touring their out of their mind. This shares no ideals with the BMW GT lineup.

Sexy(except for the headlights touching the grilles)....If it comes in M version...I'm all over it. I just hope that it comes with all the lux/convenience features offered in the 5er.
