Hmmm. Interesting. The last page's comments are pretty hilarious. I still think the M3 could eat us stock on the twisties, as I think the 335i has a pretty lose/rolling suspension setup. Nothing some H&R sways, KW V2s, and some real tires won't take care of.
I hate being modless. just wait

The M3 is doing very well against the 335i considering that it's built on a 8 years old chassis design while the 335i's chassis is relatively new. On the other hand, it's not surprising to hear people say the M3 is a better track car as this car is built for that by the M department of BMW.
Wait till the next M3 hits the market... |

I personally have never seen "twisties" that featured anything remotely resembling a 36m slalom. Notice how the M3's braking and lap times were better.

If you added $10K of mods to the 335i to match the price of an M3 how do you think those numbers would change, I bet just adding the proceed you could shave off most of that 4 sec.

Hmm... So just four seconds slower? that is not bad at all. Are there any other cars to compare with on that track? any other numbers? to see how it stands out with not the C55, M3 and the S4 Avant.

If you added $40k in mods to a Kia to match the price of an M3 how do you think THOSE numbers would change?

EXACTLY! I am amazed at the handling and braking of my 335i, but I know it won't perform as well on the track as my E46 M3 did. Seeing how I ran only one HPDE event with my M3 in 19 months of ownership, I think I can live with a few second slower 335i Around town, even around twisty roads, the 335i is a better handling car than the majority of vehicles on the road.

$1,300 for a set of Pilot PS2s
$1,200 for a Procede Done. The 335i would reverse the 4 second deficit on the M3 at the ring (and likely then some considering that 4 seconds is a fraction of time in an 8:26 lap) I came from an E46 M3 into a Z4 M Coupe (still have it) and into a 335i and I can say that the 335 is the finest car I've ever owned. I love it head and shoulders above my '03 E46 M3. The Z4 M helps me maintain some balance by keeping an M in the family but the 335i is so amazingly good on its own merit. |

I try to provide some insight and knowledge here and there in hopes that one day there will be a 335 as fast as our "old played out nissans".

Well considering this lap is more then 8 minutes long 4 seconds isn't shit and the 335 had stock run flats on smaller sizes then the M3, stop leg humping the M3 it was good now it's being out done by a 335 like it's supposed to it's over and done with now stop comparing the E46 M3 to the E92 335 just look forward to the Next M3. I hate that comparison so much lol it's not even funny the M3 was good but it's over for it so stop crying the 335 is faster and thats that.

The name of the thread is "335i dominates in the twisties". Not "335 dominates in changing lanes really fast and doing a 36m slalom really fast", two categories which are rather irrelevant to driving the "twisties".

My impressions...
For me, this will be the last BMW that does not have an M badge.
After putting 1300 miles on my 335i Sport Coupe 6mt, here is what I think: The Bad 1. Very loose at speeds at/above 80 MPH. Over 130, BE VERY CAREFUL!! 2. The CDV (Clutch Delay Valve) SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I shift fast, and when I try to, the clutch slips, serges, and the car smells like ass. 3. NO LSD (Limited Slip Diff.) I can understand that this is no M3 but c'mon, ALL the competition cars in this category have the damn thing. I can't even enjoy a nice starting swing-it sideways type drift. The Good When driving normal and not screwing around, it is the best car I have ever owned, even when compared to my other BMW's in the past. Very quick and much quicker once my Procede comes. STOP COMPARING TO ANY M CAR UNLESS ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS GOING STRAIGHT!!!!!!!! |
