Exclamation Piano Black Trim

So after going through the entire interior thread, I'm still a bit lost when it comes to this trim.

I'm planning on getting an AW with CR interior. The gray poplar isn't so gray after all and the aluminum brushed just doesnt look that good to me yet. Piano black just looks awesome.

From my understanding, it's not available in the U.S. but CAN it be ordered? If not, how much would something like that run if purchased in Europe? I'll be traveling to Germany next week on business.

Usually to get "Individual" parts you need to proove you have a Individual car by supplying its VIN number and owner ID

I don't think it's Individual; it's just not offered in the US... right?

Either way, RealOEM lists it as a retrofit kit:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...87&hg=51&fg=95

I'm sure that means you can retrofit it

Piano Black is for Individual cars

The black you guys are talking about for the E92 is the High Gloss black trim, not Piano

Piano is a very expensive black wood trim.
It looks like the wood from a old, very shiny Grand Piano

Ita a lot more "fancy" than the E92 high gloss black trim

What do you mean by "individual cars"?

So the High Gloss black trim is not available in the US? I'm still trying to find out if it is possible for me to stop by a BMW dealership in Germany and buy it.

He painted over the previous trim....right? Didn't he do that with space gray or saphire graphite as well?

you have black high gloss.

the diff between piano black and black high gloss is that piano black is wood, while high gloss is plastic.

Seems like the High Gloss is a good compromise since you can actually order it easily and also its probably a lot cheaper (just a hunch). Although, the above idea about painting the stock Poplar (or whatever stock wood) is a great idea. But to do it right, you'd want to take it out of the car and strip it first. Or, even better, just buy a second set of stock wood trim, strip and paint that, and then swap.

I just had my dealer order me one piece of Black High Gloss to see how it looked before I potentially ordered the whole thing. It does not look like Piano. It has a bit of a metallic flake to the paint. It is not a solid deep black like the Piano.

Have your dealers order one piece before you decide to order the whole thing. You might be surprised how it looks in person.

One thing about the cost. The total cost for Black High Gloss for the E92 was around $600 or so through my parts department. When I had inquired about Piano Black for my 545i, which I couldn't order because I didn't have an Individual vin #, the cost would have been around $1200 for all the pieces.

You only notice the metallic bits in high gloss black if you shine a bright light on it, and the metal flakes are very small .. but it looks pretty black like that ... i loved it in the E92 i had thats why i ordered it in the E93 ... $1200 .. thats expensive

here is the high gloss black i had in the E92... looks the same in real life ... personally i did not notice the flakes

I noticed them without a bright light. I'm not saying it looked bad. It just wasn't what I was expecting.

Congrats on your E93

$1200 was for the Piano trim for the 5 series. Very expensive for trim.
