550xi Run flat tires (all season)
I ordered a 2011 550xi with the M-sport package. I was checking on tires for winter driving and noticed there is only one tire available for this vehicle - Goodyear Eagle LS-2 RunOnFlat (Grand Touring All-Season). So, considering the "bubble problem" what are the alternatives?

If you're planning on using a dedicated winter set, then I would recommend skipping run flat tires and get a radial winter tire instead. You could also add a tire sealent kit in the trunk to cover any small punctures. I just recently ordered a 550xi and plan on doing this along with swapping out the GY LS2's upon delivery. By the way, check out tire rack... I believe there are several run flat tire options for the 550 XI m-sport.

I swapped out mine for non-RFT's and plan on getting a mobility kit. But I swapped mine out as they were the staggered summers and I don't want to go the summer / winter route. Just not enough snow in Fairfax County to warrant it. By the way...2 days after I got my car this winter we had snowmageddon. I made it home from Fairfax with RWD and all seasons. The car handled great! |

I was thinking about the non-run flat tire route, but you guys know there is no wheel well for a spare tire in the 550xi, right?
I plan on using a tire sealant kit from Continental. |

I would look at the overall condition of your roads in the winter months and then make your decision. If you decide to pull the LS2's and keep the 19" wheels you'll have to either go with all-season non-run flats and an inflator kit or a set of summer/performance 19" run-flats during the warm months and a 17" or 18" all season run-flat wheel set for the winter months. The 17" and 18" run-flats don't seem to have the problems of the 19" LS2's. You could also try different winter non-run flat winter combinitions, but I don't think you need that in Virginia.
I still believe BMW will have to resolve this issue before winter. There has been talk of them contracting with Continental for a run-flat all season on the 2012 model. If that does happen, there probably will be some kind of recall on the LS2 or discounted pricing option. |

If you are open to Non-RFT's, there are more alternatives. If you are willing to run a spare in the trunk, this route might be best.
Here are some choices. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...ting=S&tab=All -Charles@VMRWheels
