Plastic Coating

The plastic coating on my steering wheel has starting to peel. I use 303 to protect all my molding but it seems that it useless on the steering wheel. Another friend of mine has the same issue. Has anyone encountered this issue? Is there anything that can be done? Thanks.

Or just buy a new trim piece. It's not that expensive.
