Brakefluid service.. Worth going to bmw dealer?

As above, should I go to main dealer to get my brakefluid done. I believe it is about £120ish. Or should I go independent?

If you are not bothered about a BMW stamp in your service book and are not tied into BMW servicing by virtue of a BMW Insured Warranty you could save a few bob going to an indipendent. Make sure they/you know how to re set the condition based service log though.

However, not having a full dealer service history may impact on trade in value, particularly with a newish car, so it may cost you more than you save in the long run.

Isn't it just the main services that get stamped in the book? I'm sure mine is.

If you can't DIY, any garage will do a brake fluid change for a fraction of what BMW will charge.

Pretty sure that brake fluid change in part of a scheduled service and will therefore, be logged in the history.

thanks guys, not sure if the dealer at bmw Nine elms is trying to rip me off but I will call around other dealers and see what their prices are.

By the way, do you feel any difference in the brakes once the fluid has been changed?

I doubt you would notice the difference in normal day to day driving.

While you are changing it though you may as well upgrade to Super Dot 4 like this -

Not unless it was so old it was just water. Not for everyday driving. Even with some very spirited driving, I've never managed to cook the brakes on any car with road use.

When they changed mine I noticed no difference whatsoever in the brakes. My mate who has a Z4M said the same.

You feel a little hard-done-by as you cant actually see or feel anything for what your paying out for unlike an oil change where you can tell its been done. I needed to get it done for the stamp and warranty etc...

Why aren't many cars specced with the 5 years servicing for £350? Seems a bargain.

The reasoning behind changing the fluid at recommended intervals is to prevent corrosion due to ingress of moisture and subsequent degradation of braking force. Similarly to changing the engine oil and filter, it's what's known as preventative maintenance.
