Running "Summer" tires in the winter in the PNW

Just wondering if any of you continue to use V12s or any other "summer" tire in the winters of the PNW and if you have any issues with them?

I'm in Seattle and wondering if I should go with an all-season tire or can just go with the V12s. Sometimes commute from Seattle to Eastside but most of my driving is up and down the I5 to Vancouver on the weekends where the girl is.

Thanks in advance!

I have several years in a row. They do fine. Of course I live on the coast in Northern Oregon but its nothing compared to Seward, Nome, or any of the other places I have lived, farther north.

As my general rule, if weather gets consistently below 45 degrees or so, it's time to get out of the summer tires and get into my M&S tires. YMMV, depending on how cold it's going to get over there.

You should be fine if it doesn't snow or get icy, I got stuck last November, had to leave my car in the parking lot at work a few days.

I don't have another set of wheels yet so my next set of tires are going to be a set of Conti DWS.

I always put on Winter tires, it doesn't matter if the sun is shining, at temps below 45F the summer tires have almost no grip, why risk a collision?

Below 40 it gets dangerous.
Freezing, traction goes down to zero. Sometimes I was in the middle of driving when the weather transitioned to freezing. PNW winter is hit or miss. After the first winter with the Z4MC, I didn't want to risk it any longer. It's seriously a liability.

All-Season tires are neither good for summer nor winter. You want two sets.

I still think it doesn't get that cold here. Anything above 33 degrees is ok with "summer" tires for me and how I drive and have been doing so for 20 years. I won't change if its high twenties either. Just my experiences have showed me what I can and cannot run. I am more worried about other drivers quite frankly, not my "summer" tires.

I mean I moved from Dublin California where it gets down to 13 degrees sometimes and I had no issues with running a "Summer" tire but it was a dry cold, not wet. Here the coldest I have seen is mid 20's, sorry but still not cold enough to change tires. I drove back from the Seattle VS Saints game and it was high 20s the entire way. I had no issues what so ever until I hit Clatskanie where it was higher elevation, but even then you just slow down and watch your down shifting. The worst part is the roads were too salted and it damaged my paint...
I have lived in Alaska where the wet cold was below zero and yeah I would swap out to other tires then but I also would be running chains...and sometimes I wouldnt even drive to work, I would walk.

Keep in mind I am talking about "summer" tires working, no performance what so ever. I am talking about if you have to drive in these conditions, not drag racing in 28 degree weather..

In Seattle, we get a handful of freezing days, and they are never dry. Some winters less than others. Above-freezing is "doable". Freezing is absolute not, and if you get stuck out somewhere, you'll be sorry. Also keep in mind that temperatures can vary widely (~10 degrees) between the West and Eastside (Greater Seattle area).
