Order '11 or '12? Owner loyalty ending?
Board,
Trying to decide over next few days whether I pull the trigger on a '11 order or wait for the 12s.... Here's the deal: I have to take delivery of the car before Oct 31, b/c I have the $1000 Drive Event discount, so I will either need a late late '11 build or an early early '12 build. My dealer has said that I am also eligible for a $1000 owner loyalty discount because I am getting out of an '09 X3 lease. But that loyalty program will end September as well, so he's pushing me to order the '11. Has anyone heard this? Will be a 3 year lease so not worried too much about the model year like I would if I was buying the car. ALSO, I want to do the Performance Center delivery as well, to make the timing more tricky. So my main questions are: 1. Will the '12 likely have a higher lease interest rate (money factor)? 2. Will the owner loyalty program end next month, negating my ability to take advantage of $1000 off? 3. Can I order a late '11 build, for SC pickup, and have them hold it for me till late October? (don't want to pay on two cars for any weeks longer than I have to) Specs to be ordered are: 28i alpine white / chestnut Premium Tech Cold Weather HiFi Sound BMW Apps (still on the fence about the Sport Activity Package)! thanks! |

Go for the 2012 because it will come with the new twin-scroll Turbo four cylinder engine - more power and better mileage than the 2011 28i's six cylinder. Dealers are taking 2012 X3 orders now.

It's true that it hasn't been officially anounced; but BMW Customer Service has told me that the 2012 X3 28i will be a four cylinder - at least for the US (I didn't ask about Canada).

I placed my order today (yeah!), it will be a MY 2011 and one my dealer already had in the pipeline. I am buying mine and it was a concern that I should perhaps have gone for a 2012 however, if this car is as good as people are saying, I do not anticipate getting rid of it any day soon, so I think MY won't be too relevant to it's value a few years down the line... However, please chip in here if my theory is flawed.....
