i like my conti extreme contact. for south Cali you will not probably need DWS. i would go for conti extreme contact DW. and it is pretty cheap - 100/each +- depends on size

I've had Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport non-RFT. Nice ride, quiet, perfect for city and non-agressive highway driving IMO. Good grip for most situations, although not as good as some extreme performance tires. But the price is right ... <$600 on TireRack
Speaking of which, try checking out TireRack.com. You can sort the available tires for your car by price and check out the TireRack and consumer reviews. They have lots of side-by-side comparisons.

One thing I never ever scrimp on is tires. You need to buy the best tires your budget will afford. Most people on here hate RFTs, and I did too at first, but now that I've had my car for a while, I've actually grown to appreciate them. Since the car was designed for RFTs, I'd suggest using them.

Looked at Costco
Potenza G019 front Potenza RE050A rear Total would be 676 without tax. And Amercia Tire Hankook all around 611. Thats out the door. But I dont know a thing about Hankook. |

New RFTs only make sense if the OP really needs them, otherwise there is usually a significant improvement in ride, longevity and certainly expense when going to non RFTs. And if you don't have a competitive local tire shop, order from Tire Rack and use one of their approved local installers. Tom |

tire pressure sensors are not needed - you use the ones you have. without them you would probably end up around 500 total for 17". right?

If the car is an '07 or later, the TPMS sensors are already in your wheels. So that price probably includes the new valve stems and (IIRC) remounting the existing sensors. That's a decent price and yes, you need the sensors unless you (A) don't want to be informed of a dangerously low tire and (B) don't mind driving with a constant warning light on your dashboard. Also, if you opt for non-RFTs, you may want to carry some sort of "mobility kit" in case of a puncture. I have a 12 volt compressor and plug kit and some folks also carry tire sealant. Some even go so far as to buy a spare tire, jack and tools - but this really compromises trunk space. Tom |

I am one of those "some" i do not mind carrying extra tire in a trunk on a daily basis driving to work and back - do not need trunk for this at all, but i've got very nice feeling of security with a full size spare. In much more rear cases of big shopping days i would just get rid of it

+1 for the Conti DWS. You'll just need to play with the tire pressure during the first couple of weeks to find what is best. If you start with the vehicle's recommended tire pressure, the side walls will be too soft and downright dangerous at highway speeds (if you need to make a quick lane change or anything). Once you get the tire pressure right, then they are quiet, firm, but compliant and I think the grip is excellent for street driving.

I actually like my RFT for the handling but they can be a little harsh at times. I will replace them with Michelin Pilot Super Sports because I drive spiritedly every now and then. If performance isn't an issue you can't go wrong with the Continental DWS. They are pretty decent and affordable. |

Hankook Ventus Evo V12. Cheap, amazing tires. I don't know your tire size so I guessed. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....r=Base%20Model
