Exclamation Progman 25.1.1 coming

My car was picked up for a software upgrade last week. Not unexpectedly, the VR is gone (the service manager was tasked with checking before returning the car and picking up the loaner).

It will be fixed with 25.1.1. According to BMW NA, this will be available in about a week.

I asked for my car back as I didn't really like the 328i loaner and the Audi A8 quattro L was picked up this morning also. (The Audi was great fun - doesn't drive like a BMW but nonetheless it is a sweet car.) I expect my car's return around 10:30 h and will report more then.

Do these updates have any impact on Bluetooth? I would love to be able to go back to my Treo 700wx.

Indirectly, as the software evolves, some phones will no longer work and some phones will magically become compatible.

Jonathan,

Since you seem to know all things BMW Electronica...

Does BMW install new Progman releases into new cars before they are made available for patching at the various centers? You say that v25.1.1 will be available shortly, but have new cars fresh off the line been pre-installed with 25.1.1 for a period of time?

I assume that cars arriving at the VDC will get the most recent SW version installed upon arrival at the VDC?

Thanks,
-MrB

New cars seem to get the newest software slightly ahead of the release of patches.

Cars arriving at the VDC will only be updated if there is a reason (i.e. problem, bug, etc., such as the Voice Command problem).

Mines sitting in service bay now getting an upgrade. Hope I retain VR. I better go check my voice mail now and see if I have messages from dealer. I have a 328i Touring as loaner. Nice package. I could keep a few more days if it means I get everything working at once.

JSpira,

My CCC was sent to BMW NA about 2 weeks ago after losing VR. I have what looks like the Progman 25 update, but VR was fixed. Since the update wasn't done at my dealer, they didn't tell me exactly which version is actually installed on my car.

Is this 25.1.1 the first version of Progman 25 that fixed VR? Is it possible that BMW installed this on my car 2 weeks ago?

No, it´s not. This will vary based on a variety of things incl how the car is equipped.

25.1.1 is not yet out.

I thought as much. So does "slightly ahead" mean days or weeks? I wonder what progman version a week 14/15 build E90 would have been installed with? Does the Freimann delivery center handle installing updates for vehicles being picked up there, if an update were to be made available prior to pickup?

Do the CCC units and all of the various black boxes get "imaged" as a set prior to installation in the vehicle (I know that some of the components are keyed with the the VIN, so presumably nothing can happen until the VIN gets assigned), or are they imaged all as one set on the assembly line when they are installed onto the vehicle network bus?

I know that BMW employs somewhat of a Just-in-time inventory process, but they might come pre-programmed from the supplier.

I smell a Roundel article...

Actually, the article is more along the complexity of managing and servicing cars which are more software based. Not sure if this will be Roundel, www.bmwcca.org, or Bimmer - maybe the highest bidder?

Why am I not the least bit surprised that such an article is already in the works?

What was the earliest version of 25.xx that corrects the VR problem?

My car is a July 2005 build with the options listed in my signature. My dealer installed Progman 25 on my car, which updated iDrive, but resulted in losing VR. When the problem was noticed, the CCC was removed from my car, shipped to BMW NA for reprogramming, and then reinstalled. This all occured about 2 weeks ago. I understand that 25.1.1 has not yet been released, but do you know what version BMW NA may have installed to fix the problem?

That's comforting. I'm sure there would be no warning for those whose phones suddenly fall into the incompatible category.

Just talked to my SA and was informed about two weeks before the new version will be available... he also said if there are any mods on the car like the Procede to take it out since they will be getting into your ECU... not sure why they need to get in there but i'll take his advice.

It is when you go to call your wife to give her the good news that VR is finally working again in her car that you realize that the phone she has been using for two years is no longer compatible with the car.
