I am looking to replace my runflats with non runflats. What would be the quietest option? I can go summer or all season as I am in CA. I am just looking for the quietest tire out there. I hate road noise!

Generally all season tires are quieter than summer tires. There are quieter tires out there than the DWS especially if snow isn't a concern for you. What tire size do you have?

Conti DW's are going to be quieter than DWS. My PSS are nearly silent.

I have a set of PSS on my 325xi now, they are really quiet. I also have a 2nd set of stock 16" wheels wrapped in Michelin MX4V tires. I know they're not performance tires, but those tires are super silent and have crazy long tread life warranty.

Thanks everyone. I have an 06 330i with sports package and the stock 18's. Its my wifes care so I am not too worried about performance. Also cost is not really an issue. Just want a good quiet tire.

I have brand new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and find them very noisy. Much more so then the stock Bridgestone runflats that came on the car with about 50% tread. Very strange. Usually when I put on branch new tires they are quiet. Not a fan of these Michelins. I would have gone with the new PSS but I heard all seasons would be quieter?

Changed to Michelin Pilot Sports non Run-flats and very happy with them. May go to Super Sports next time depending on price.

Correct, generally speaking all season tires are quieter but there are some exceptions of course. Two of the most quiet riding tires in those sizes are the Conti Pro Contact and Yokohama Avid Envigor.

I was thinking about replacing my 16" conti rft with the pilot super sport a/s plus in the same size, 205/55/16. This is the first I have heard that these tires were noisy. I was going to go with the DWS because I like them on my 2004 Acura but have read that they may too soft for the BMW.

Can you make a recommendation for a good all season for 2008 328? Thanks!

The DWS should not feel any softer than the Conti Pro SSR if that is the Continental tire that you have now. For a tire with a smooth and quiet ride but still more responsive in handling than the DWS you may want to consider the Bridgestone RE970 A/S.

Tire experiences on my 328:OE 16" Conti rft to DWS to Bridgestone RE970 A/S. Wanted to improve on the rough ride over broken pavement and the harsh impact over bad expansion joints the RFTs produced. Chicago roads are not good. 5,000 miles ago installed the DWS's. Problems solved. These tires smoothed out the harshness, lessened the impact noise and have been extremely quiet on multiple surfaces. Gas milage the same or a little better than the originals. Lost some steering response crispness. I increased the PSI 3lbs. Better, but still not as crisp. Moved the DWS's to my wife's Passat. Installed the new RE970 A/S 6 days ago. 400 miles on the RE970s. The 970s are wonderfully responsive and the car is more fun than with the DWS's or the originals. Even regular non-spirited driving the handling difference is noticable over the DWS. But the RE970s are not as quiet as the DWSs. Concrete surfaces are louder, espansion joints and broken surfaces are more pronounced and these tires are just louder overall compared to the DWS, but less harsh than the Conti RFTs.

Wow thanks for that John, that's the exact review I was looking for. So bottom line are you recommending the 970 over the DWS? Would you say the noise/harshness of the 970 is closer to the conti rft or the DWS?

OH one more thing, I assume we are talking about 205/55/16. I was thinking about going to the optional size of 225/50/16 thinking that may help the steering response of the DWS a little. Thanks Again.

Just put Michelin Pilot Super Sports on and highly recommend them. Quiet and smooth.

Yes 205/55/16. Both good. Depends on priorities: DWS quieter on all surfaces and handled road imperfections more comfortably. 970 more responsive and nimble. Tirerack video review is on target. 970 noise/harshness falls about midway between the other two, although didn't have the chance to go back to back 970/conti rft so kind tough to gage. 6 weeks into DWS ownership I had a loaner 328 with conti rft. I remember feeling glad I swithced to DWS. I think both manuracturers offer a trail period.

This is exactly the same experience I had with the Bridgestone RE960AS. Responsive and quiet on smooth pavement, but stiff to the point of being annoying on expansion joints and bumpy pavement. The E92 suspension is fairly stiff already and a stiff tire is, IMO, not a good match if ride quality is important to you. I now run Conti DW for summer and Michelin Alpin PA3 for winter. I'll never buy another all season tire.

I liked the DWS so much I bought four of them for the 18" wheels! They are quiet, handle bad roads like a champ and I really like the cost per mile. Don't think you can get a better AS tire given the life you will get out of them!

another factor to consider, in my experience the lower your car is and the wider your tires get it seems to create more and more road noise. Basically, in the cars ive had, the less room in the fender the more noise there is.

Obviously, with a lower aspect ratio (55 in 16" vs 40/35 in 18") you are going to have a little more road noise. And I definitely feel the road bumps more with the 18" tires. Not harsh, just a more constant feel of imperfections in the road surface.

But the wider and narrower contact patch definitely gives me more responsive handling, stability and traction on dry pavement. It's very noticeable. There seems to be less squirm in the sidewalls on the 18 tires. I'm running at 50 PSI on the 18"s just as I was doing on the 16"s so the differences are not due to more air pressure in the tires.

Haven't tried the 18"ers out in the snow yet. Not sure what to expect in snow with the 18"ers but the 16"ers were good. Not great, just good.

One other thing - when I went from 268 style 16" wheels with the 205/55/16 DWS tires to the staggered 189 style 18" wheels with 235/40/18 (f) and 255/35/18 (r) tires I actually ADDED 24 pounds of weight! The 189's are nice looking but heavy! The weight difference isn't in the tires (4 pounds more for the 18") it's the 20 pound heavier wheels! I completely lost the weight savings I got from moving from the 16" the OEM Turanza EL42 to the 16" DWS. The extra weight slows acceleration.....
