anyone running staggered 18's, what size tires?

I've just recently purchased the OEM 313 style wheels in 18" staggered with sizes 18x8 ET:34 and 18x8.5 ET:37. I'm now trying to decide which tires to mount on them. I like what i've read about the Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires but am unsure on the best size. It's been recommended to me to stay with OEM size which would be 225/40/18 on the fronts and 255/35/18 on the rear.

However, I keep reading how the Continental's are a little on the narrow side so was wondering if I could also do 235/40/18 on the front and 265/35/18 on the rear? My main consideration/question is that I have an xi so wanted to ask, anyone on here running a similar setup or can give me a definitive answer on what size tires would be best with an xi in staggered 18 setup?

Thanks!

I would recommend going with the 225/255 tire setup for a 8/8.5" setup. The 265's are outside the recommended width range for a 8.5" wheel.

I'd do 235s front at least. the 225 is actually a bit narrow on an 8" rim, especially if you are going to be getting the DWS. Also, the wider fronts will give you a bit better front/rear balance and turn-in response.

I would stay away from the 235 on the front with 255 in the rear. The rolling diameters are close but a little too far apart for comfort. With this AWD its important to keep the rolling diameters as close as possible, otherwise you might damage your transfer case.

Calculating the theoretical diameter isn't good enough so you need to look at the revs per mile or the published diameter. I try to keep the diameter within .1 or .2 as long as the revs per mile are within about 3 revs.

Tire and wheels sizing (along with a lot of other add-ons) are a pain with the xi, but the snow performance is amazing! Mind the AWD tolerance and you'll do great.

I have a 2011 328i RWD with standard suspension, 17x8 stock wheels and 225/45/17 tires. I am ready to replace the tires, thinking of getting a new set of 18x8.5 rims at all corners. But I also want to have a little more rubber for extra protection.

Would the Conti DW 245/40/18 square setup be OK? I also want to keep the weight down as much as possible.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for all the input everyone, think i'll stay safe and go with OEM size (225/40 and 255/35).

245's up front are cutting it close to the inside. What offset are you going to be running?

Will be custom offsets to be flush with the fenders. Will the thicker rubber cause any rubbing or make the car too tall?
