run flat indicator
Evening folks,
Stupid question, but is the run flat indicator always on? And after just ive answered my second question! (what is the initialising setting for - for when you change the tyre pressures yourself or are towing or have changed a wheel.tyre etc)) |

What do you mean by 'always on'? If you're asking if it's always monitoring the tyre pressure then yes, so long as the wheels are turning, it's checking rotational speeds. If you're asking if the light is supposed to be on at all times, no, it's not.

Nothing to do with towing, but following a pressure adjustment you should initialise the system as per the manual - with the engine running, but whilst stationary, in 'vehicle status' select 'reset' then drive off - that's all there is to it.

Depends how different the pressures were or are - it potentially makes the system less able to detect slow punctures as its frame of reference isn't correct.

hmmmm.....no its not always "checking".....the system is not 100% reliable....
I had a nail in my rear tyre one day....and went for a short drive ....no warnings came up.... Its only when i lost control of the rear a mini roundabout that i decided to check the tyre pressure......and one rear tyre was down to 20psi!!! i think.... and when i inspected the tyre, i saw that nail!!!... |

Hmm, different definitions perhaps. The system works by monitoring differences in wheel speeds, so wouldn't necessarily spot a gradual reduction in pressure as a result of a slow puncture. It's intended to warn of rapid deflations, but you're still supposed to check the pressures manually every so often.
