Custom Exhaust Work
I've been talking to someone about possibly doing some custom exhaust work for our cars.
My questions to you guys are:
Posts in this thread will give us a better idea as to whether or not it's worth it (and by us, I mean him/them).

Gotta have tips that fill out the rear valance and a deep growl. Should have two options - one for those living in states with emissions an another option for those that don't.

1. Yes!
2. Larger piping (not sure how this would work before the exhaust splits for the two mufflers, as that piping is not round). Larger piping (I believe its 2.5" per pipe stock) from the split to the mufflers (3" per pipe should be good). The passenger side muffler pipe has quite a few restrictions, evening them out would be great. Free flowing mufflers with a 3" inlet that aren't excessively loud. Muffler tips that do not require any modification to the rear bumper. 3. I would prefer the DPF stay, as from what I understand, if its removed the car will belch black smoke like a truck. There has also been some talk that the car may lose power with the DPF removed, although I dont know if thats true. Personally, I couldnt care about the catalytic converters, since diesel cars do not undergo emissions inspection in the state where my car is registered/inspected. However if they were removed, some method would be needed to ensure no SES/CEL lights. Also, a full exhaust system would have to ensure that there are no problems with the urea injection system. 4. Price/performance ratio. I wouldnt be interested in paying $1250+ dollars for an exhaust if it results in a gain of 5-10WHP. I'd rather spend $250 on a couple of mufflers (for the sound) and have an exhaust shop weld them in. Now if it results in 30-40WHP and faster turbo spool, then I'm all in. 5. The cheaper the better! |

The biggest constraints is getting around the DPF. That really is the biggest bottleneck and the car needs to be tuned accordingly without it. If there was a way to flash it to make the Urea system inactive that would be great.

Matt, I've talked to at least 1 tuner that says it's possible...but I haven't had time to work with him to figure it out for sure. I need to make a trip north to make it happen.

Well it's set,,,, the car is being dropped off this Sunday to have a custom cat back exhaust installed. I hope to have it back by Wednesday. If this is sucessful the fabricator is shooting to make this system available to anyone that is interested and he intends to design it in such a way that it can be shipped and installed with very little in the way of modifications.
