SF to Tahoe and back on one tank

I went from SF to Tahoe and back on only one tank of gas this weekend. Along with wife and pup in the back. My new 335d exceeded my expectations more than any car I have taken on this trip. 328ci/X3/335i (and others not worth noting.)

Upon return I had almost 90miles left! I didn't start with a full tank either. Crazy! I usually have to stop for gas on these trips.

I averaged 42.7mpg/60-70mph for about two hours until I decided to put it back in Sport/Manual mode and also have some fun passing up the mountain. Which was effortless!!! For the whole trip I averaged 34mpg/37mph. And I "drove it" for about 60% of the trip.

This was my first real road trip. The 335d is just made for the highway. Great MPG and incredible passing capability. I didn't think the two are possible. I couldn't have done this in my 335i.

I also didn't miss having the manual. Which is hard to admit. Shifting is so smooth and quick. I was able to sneak in some downshifts and passing without wifey thinking I was being "agressive". What a smooth performer this car is!

Every journey is such a joy and surprise with this car.

I made a trip from SLC UT, to Las Vegas NV on 3/4ths of a tank. Was super impressed with my 'd' and how it drove all the way down.

And I agree with you on the manual part. I still would prefer a manual trans car, but not with this motor. It works very well with the automatic.

That is awesome! I have done that trip many times. Doing it in a 335i or 335d would be so fun! When you try for good gas mileage, its amazing. Especially on flat freeway with cruise control. But it wants to be "Driven"! Which makes it so much fun on the freeway.

Efficiency or fun? How about both!

I'll make this trip someday to see if you are lying to us.

Do you ever go to Presideo Golf Course? Your car looks familiar.
