M3 Lip - Which tape is best?

Hey guys, purchased an M3 lip, with no tape on the bottom, anyone know which tape is the best for the M3 lip for a 2011 E92 LCI? Please advise, i know it has to be double sided tape, but which one is best for the lip?

I bought my M3 style lip spoiler from JB Speed and it came with 3M double sided tape (idk which one) already attached to it. All I had to do was peel it and attach. I have had the spoiler on since May and no problems whatsoever.

My friend helped me install. Clean your trunk and then install. Basically we put weight on the spoiler after install for 5-10 min to guarantee the spoiler won't move and then we taped it down for 2-3 days like the pic below. Make sure to take off the tape after 2-3 days so it won't leave residue.

After my first machine car wash (2-3 weeks later), some of the glue spread onto the trunk (barely anything), but everything is 100% fine. I have driven 120+ mph a couple times and around 100 mph about once a week since I got the spoiler and it does not seem loose at all. Very strong and sturdy.

Don't forget to prep the paint on the trunk and strip the wax off the area the tape will be applied to.

yes you really have to make sure there's absolutely no wax. Rubbing alcohol alone won't work, you need a clay bar. My lip spoiler became loose after a few months because it was on top of a layer of wax, even though I used rubbing alcohol. Next time around, I used a clay bar and polished, now the lip spoiler with 3M is on there like cement.

This. I washed the area and then used a clay bar to get the surface as clean as possible before installing the spoiler. I have had no problems with it coming loose, even after running it through an automated car wash several times.

I will be interested in purchasing this after my trip. Are the painted parts (reflectors and or spoilers) cleared after they are painted the body color? Just wondering if they will hold up to a polish?

Strange...

I used 3M tape and taped my spoiler on right after a fresh coat of wax -- literally waxed the trunk and then put the spoiler on. This is before I knew I had to strip everything with rubbing alcohol before applying the tape. I went for a drive on the highway right after that without any extra support and my spoiler held on. It's been 2 years and it's still gripping like the first day...

wax is supposed to provide a slippery non-stick surface so whatever you used isn't doing a very good job.

3M tape is supposed to adhere to any surface and be weathered without losing its bond, so whatever you used didn't do a very good job.

I'm not even sure what wax my friend gave me at the time, but you're right -- it must not have done a great job. Oh well, spoiler's on and that's all that matters.
