Or you could vinyl it....

The plastidip is soft and kinda porous so it may stick. But an impact will probably crack the paint.

i just bought vinyl for my roof and if i have enough leftover which i doubt im going to do that. if not i already have 2 cans of new plastidip and i have gloss black spraypaint so itd bee free and easy

as far as an impact i dont think anythings going to hit my mirrors. maybe small pebbles flying on the highway but it shouldnt do tooo much damage

You'd be surprised at what hits your mirrors. I have rocks hit mine all the time.

I have my mirrors wrapped in matte white and there are small rips in the vinyl from rocks hitting it.

Need to re-wrap them actually but it's a bitch to do in one piece. Took me an hour, dry install, per side.

I plastidip my front kidney grills, and then I painted black over it with a coat of gloss. It's still removable. Because I started peeling it the other day lol

I want to do the same thing for my front bumper. What black spray paint did you get? Is your car jet black or sapphire black? Did it match well? Pics?

It's extremely unlikely you'll find spray that matches OEM paint. He probably just wanted black mirrors as an accent piece. Like on the 335is.

I actually painted over my plasti-dipped rims to get a metallic and speckled black effect. It's only temporary until I can save up for some nice rims but it looks solid and it's completely removable. Just make sure the paint is only making contact with the dip so that you don't make a permanent mark!

exactly. painted over my mirror caps. my car is alpine white and i wanted black mirrors.

plastidipped like 7 coats to be safe, followed by 2 light coats of gloss black. worked out nicely. peeled off completely but was a tad more difficult with the extra coats of spraypaint

I used plastidip on the grille and sprayed gloss over them. they look great and no chipping. I dont see any reason why would be a problem. The only thing i am not sure about is when pastidip sprayed over the mirror cover that has a clear coat and clear coat reaction to plastidip.

Did it on my friends s13. You really have to use a lot of layers or else it will not peel off completely.

I know some ricers who did it on their wheels. I mean, it seems to work out for them. If you can plastidip over clearcoat without any problems i dont see why you cant spray paint over dip, granted it doesnt seep through or cause some crazy chemical reaction. Keep us updated and post some pics!

I wouldn't do it.

Any imperfections in the plasti dip will be apparent on the painted surface.

I had a buddy try this on his motorcycle recently and it's a mess now.

you gotta make sure the conditions and environment where you are doing this are good to use plastidip but you can def do it, the only thing that will vary is the finish. Do a few even coats of plastidip but not too many, give them proper time to dry as well i would personally give it a couple of days after plastidipping it before i added the paint on top and like mentioned above make sure to only spray the actual paint on top of the plastidip so it is reversible at any time. I have tried it on a few house hold items plastic and metal and it has worked fine, plastidip also offers custom colors as an alternative?

It's possible but a bad idea if you want to preserve the peel-ability of plasti dip. What happens is the paint hardens and when you go to remove it will be brutal to take off, google it and have a read through some of the issues people have has trying to remove. The dip my car (dipyourcar?) forum has a good thread on this.

with that said if you do still want to do it lay down like 6+ coats of PD as your primer, lay down your color, cc, then use plasti dip CC to basically sandwich the paint in a flexible layer to encourage it to peel when you want to remove it.

If you don't want to ever remove it, just use normal paint. But if you are using PD for the removable factor just get some PD clear coat to finish it off with
