Where do you store your wheels?

Hi guys,

where do you store your wheels when getting them changed? Here in Europe, it is common to leave your "other set" (winter/summer depending on season) at the tire shop. It saves you the hassle of dragging your wheels to and fro, and since our cars only fit 2 wheels comfortably, it would save me a journey...

I am however worried about the fact that they might stack wheels at the tire shop, causing flat spots...

Any opinions?

Thanks

I use a local dedicated tire storage service. They pick up and drop off my wheels from the tire shop and store them for the season. Being a tire storage service, I assume they are storing them properly and I haven't had any issues so far with them.

I bought this from Tire Rack. Allows you to hang them on the wall and off the floor and out of the way in my garage.

Whatever you do, wherever you store, make sure it doesn't get put outside... its really not the wheels you're worried about, the sun and elements will degrade the tires, and over time, it'll become a serious safety issue. Indoors, Indoors, Indoors

They're stored at the tire shop where I had them changed. No problems so far. (Also have a set of rims in my livingroom, but that's another story...)

I was thinking of buying this too, but decided to make one instead. Used some spare parts laying around and a 2x4.

I just installed this today...HyLoft 01031 from Amazon.com ($45). Appears to be very well made, especially considering the cost compared to other tire racks.

Garage for me as well.

Guys, at least put your tires in plastic bags to protect the rubber. They sell tire storage totes with handles at Costco.

If you have a hot water tank, compressor, etc in your garage it produces ozone which deteriorates rubber.

Also deflate them to 11psi to relax the bead during storage.

Just put up 3 of these in my garage this weekend (snow wheels/tires for x5d, m5, 335xi) and I couldn't be happier with them. The fact that I got 3 racks for the price of 1 from griots makes it even better. I highly recommend these as they also fold out of the way if you ever sell the car/other set of wheels.

I purchased a 48"x48" gorilla rack from amazon to store 2 sets of summer/winter tires for me and my friend. Hangs from the rafters with 8 lag bolts and will hold 600 pounds. A bit of a pain to put all of the wheels up there, but storing 8 wheels isn't easy.
