Engine Scan Tools - check and clear codes
Does anyone use a scan tool like Autel Maxiscan to check and clear codes?
http://www.auteltech.com/ms609.htm I've got the BT cable which is fine to use with my laptop, but it is not something I carry around with me. Since I am running the JBD and I occasionally get an SES light or check engine/limp mode when I am traveling. Thought having something like in this in the glovebox would be more convenient. Anyone using something similar? |

Truth be told, the lights are probably going to be nothing to worry about. JBD will mostly cause an SES or CEL as a result of rail pressure plausibility, which is basically saying that the JBD is pushing your car more than it can handle (if it does, dial the JBD down a notch or two..if you're running 100%, drop it to say...85%, and see if it continues to happen).
It's not going to be anything you'll need to address straight off, and you can just clear at home.

Speaking of the few cars that report going into limp mode when the JBD is turned up to 100% vs those that NEVER experience any problems. I am wonding if it's the individual JBD's and not the car. I would love test this question by running someone else's JBD that does not put their car into limp when running at 100% to rule it out. |

For the record, my JBD hasn't put my car into limp for...well, a long, long time.

Interesting.... Did you just keep clearning it and eventually it just didn't happen anymore?
I wonder if the car eventually adapted to running at the higher rail pressure. |

My guess is there is some adaptation, yes. There's another tune I've been using, too, that has done the same thing, but it seems that one is more variable. Sometimes I can run it at a higher setting (it's maxed setting, sometimes), without an error/limp, and other times I can't. I thought it had to do with ambient temps, but even at 60F, it would sometimes trigger limp.

I am going to keep running it at 100%, clearing codes as necessary and see if the computer adapts. BTW, car dyno'd Sat at 294 rwhp 2 1/2 clicks from 100%. Didn't get torque numbers since they didn't have the current software. Another d running the tune and intake came in at 328 rwhp |

Mine works fine....what happens when you try to erase?
Have you gone through my walkthrough?

To read engine codes try engine code MSD80 in that long list of options from the 2nd tab (individual control modules) in the opening screen.
The BT cable is not designed to operate with cars beyond 2009 (something that Mike failed to mention when I purchased the JBD ). BT stated they are working on an update but it won't be available for many months. Reading engine codes is about all you can do with it if you have a 2010/2011. |

Not sure what you mean be "not erasing codes from inside the car with Terry's kit?" Are you speaking of the CAN tool or BT diagnostic cable that you connect to your lap top. |

Sorry for my poor english writing but what i meant is that every time i tried to use it, i couldnt erase any codes or if i wanted to read codes too, the speed needle would go hit the stopper.

Okay then we are talking about two entirely different things. E-mail Terry I am sure he can help you get it squared away. He sometimes even responds at night. I opted for the Baverian Technic diagnostic cable (BT tool) instead of the CAN tool.
