I've picked up a set of 16" factory wheels and should really get some winter tires on them so I'm ready when the snow starts to fly. I had pretty much settled on the Blizzak WS70s, but now I'm getting concerned that they might feel too squishy, especially considering I'm also downsizing to 16x7" rims. I'm prepared for a bit of a drop in performance, but I don't want to completely destroy the driving experience. So now I'm starting to wonder if the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 might be a better compromise since our roads are usually cleared off fairly quickly following fresh snowfall. Can anyone offer any insight, especially anyone who's run 16s with WS70s or something similar?

On a separate note, I also see that they start out with 1.5/32" less tread depth which makes me wonder, does that mean the Pilot Alpins will probably have a shorter service life, or will the Blizzaks end up wearing faster making the initial tread depth difference irrelevant?
