Negotiating f30 prices when ordering

Interested to hear any comments on past experience when haggling at the dealership when ordering new. I\'m 95% sure I will be ordering a new 328 when the prices are released, but I want to know what kind of bargaining power I will have, if any. I have heard numerous stories of people here on the forums grabbing their car for 500 to 1000 over dealer invoice, so I wanted to know the possibility of that happening for the new f30.

guarantee that will NOT happen with the f30. with BMW reaching best Q3 sales in its history and people already lining up for a new 3er ... ull be lucky to get a new f30 at anything below MSRP

My approach is that I'm planning to order for European Delivery (ED) where the actual cost of the car that BMW AG charges goes down on the base model, so I'm hoping to still be able to purchase at a discount even though it is new, etc. (Note that ED sales don't come out of dealer allocations either, so the dealer isn't losing the ability to sell a car at a high price by selling you one for ED.)

If you are ordring a car, i cant see them talking more than 500 off, if anything. If you are taking something off the lot, maybe a little more room there, 750-1000 off. A lot will depend on the demand and what residuals are set at.

I was talking to my dealer. He was quite blunt in stating that there would be no discount. As you rightly say dealers are greedy and will get whatever they can out of you. If the demand is there they will not give u any discount.

The guy standing in line behind you will buy the car if you pass on it. Thats what Supply and demand is all about.....not enough supply for the demand....
I know almost everyone here thinks that they have all been ripped off by their dealers and think all dealers are crooks. Well they arent. They have been giving huge discounts on BMWs (3s)for the last few years and now that they have a new one they will ask for list. Why give a discount on somethng that someone else is willing to pay full price for. Some call it greed, others call it smart business.

The beauty of living in a metropolitan area where there are multiple dealers is that if one wants sticker, another will take less, and another will take less than that. I'll ask my local dealers for pricing and then will likely take ED unless a dealer is willing to do invoice + $1k or close.

As always, if a dealer wants the deal he will take it. I'm suggesting that new cars are rarely discounted because it makes no sense whatsoever. Thos ethat get discounted will be at the end of the delivery line for sure. Not sure how you'll get a car cheaper and faster on ED. Good luck with that.

ED prices are always lower than US MSRP prices because they are based on the European invoice price, not the US invoice price. BMW even markets their ED program that way.

Faster no, cheaper yes. And well worth the experience.

In the US, ED pricing is between $2,400 and $4,100 (7.5ish %) for 3ers. It's not faster and there's usually a lag from introduction to orders being accepted, but it certainly beats paying MSRP, which is just silly.

I'm not sure if I can post this or not, but since they are sponsors on the M3Post site, I thought that it'd be alright. If it's not, would the Mods Please delete this?

I have NO affiliation with this dealer other than a couple of e-mails back and forth concerning purchasing a 2012 3 Series coupe.

I'm not going to post the pricing that he told me, but I can tell you that of the five dealerships that I spoke to around here, not one could touch his pricing.

The dealership is Steve Thomas BMW in California and the Guy to talk to is Ryan Amico. His pricing Really Surprised me!

If this is net on the car and you need to factor in your travel costs, it seems to make sense if you want a vacation but not just to save $$ on a new one. No?

Yes, you have to pay for a trip. BUT, for people like me who travel constantly for work --- I'll fly on miles. I'll stay on hotel points. I'll get a free rental car if needed. I can pretty much do my personal travel for meals and incidentals only.

Not to mention the ED experience.

I can hardly wait to do my first ED for my new F30 - just wish they'd hurry up and let me order it!

Nicely said. If it were purely financial you'd have to not factor in the value of your time to make it make sense. A cheap summer flight on Lufthansa and a really brief stay in Munich and you could still end up well ahead, but it would be missing the point.

I worked in Frankfurt for five years and have friends that I could drop in on while on ED and also would likely drive through Belgium, send home some Westvleteren and go see Normandy before dropping the car off and catching a cheap flight to London to see friends there before heading home.

How is that greedy? If you had a business and didnt have to dicount something would you? I dont get the hypocricy (sp?) of most of the people on the board. You dont want to pay then dont get the car. Go buy a C Class or A4 because they cant give those away if youre looking for a discount.

My entire idea behind the thread was to see if people have done this during the release of the e9x and so forth. Luckily for me I have two contacts at different BMW dealerships. I'm sure I can get a deal between the two of them, but my real question was WHEN can I get a deal. If it means waiting until June to go and buy one off the lot, then so be it, but I'm losing the customization I wanted so very dearly. It seems to me, that I could probably get a 2012 5 series for invoice from one of the two because of the discounts already being offered on 2012 models. I guess we all must still wait on pricing
