Soooo, on the way to work this morning...
On the way to work, I noticed this lady standing on the side of the road. I didn't think anything of it because people are always walking or doing something near the road in this area. But what caught my eye was that she wasn't walking or crossing the street as there was no traffic at the time. As I approached (55mph) she got a little closer to the edge of the road. Then when I got even closer she steps out right in front of me. The whole time she'd been watching me come down the street. I slam on the brakes smoking up the tires and everything. She sees I'm not going to hit her, but then she noticed another car in the next lane coming. She waits a little longer and steps in front of that car! That driver slams on their brakes and ends up right about the same spot as I did.
As we're looking at each other like WTF?!?! She just starts walking away. As we roll away the both of us look at each other again like "Did that just happen?". I wasn't too sure at the time so I didn't bother calling the cops.

No, the whole time I was thinking.... "Don't do it! I know you're thinking about it but don't do it!" I kinda had time to anticipate what she might do so I didn't poo the pants. But if she did it at the very last minute with no time to react, then I would have to go home.
I remember a girl in high school attempted the same thing all morning. She finally succeeded later that day to jump in front of a car and kill herself. It's immediately what I thought of when I saw this lady. Is it common for people to commit suicide in that way?

There are more foolproof and less painful ways to kill yourself. If you're gonna do it, do it right. Hey fire...go pick up these retards and lock em up would ya

This sort of thing used to happen in New Orleans all the time, may still. Normally it would be kids or teenagers walking out from between parked cars to collect insurance money. Obviously, the trick was for them to do the actual hitting (of the car, no proof however), not get killed, claim an injury, collect the money, and go do it again!
They would, of course, choose the cars carefully - expensive ones whose drivers would have insurance. Native New Orleaneans learn quickly to watch the pedestrians, not only for this, but potential carjackings as well. |

I think its the skeptical side of me talking, but what about the thought that she wanted to get hit, not to be killed, but to sue the driver of a BMW? What kind of car was the driver next to you driving?

Sounds like mental illness to me. Not too smart to jump in front of a Z4 though. More likely to break your legs, hip, and/or pelvis. Those are not necessarily gonna kill you, but are very painful and take a long time to recover from. If she wanted to end it, best would've been a bus or a subway. I doubt she's reading this forum though.
Glad to hear you and the Zed were unscathed. You should've called the cops though. That lady needs help. |

Glad that one wasn't part of my morning. I have enough things that distract my adult attention deficit disorder without the image of that searing a hole in my brain.
I do have to agree with some of the comments above - such an encounter with our cars isn't as likely to be fatal as with the typical SUV and the results would be far more complicated than if you were driving a big rig.

if you want to kill yourself, you should jump infront of an old W126 benz, not a z4
