MazdaSpeed3 Breaks 500 WHP - how is it fueled when compared to N54?

Just saw this on the Cobb Blogs that an Ms3 made over 500 WHP and ran an 11.9@122 MPH. Let me point out that this a Direct Injected 2.3L 4 cylinder motor running on pump gas with meth and a larger turbo. Does anyone have any idea how they can fuel a motor like this for that kind of power? It's running at 30 PSI with a built motor but that doesn't change the fact that it's a DI 4 banger. It looks like it has an upgraded HPFP from Custom Performance, why is it that we can't get something like this? It looks like it's tuned with a Cobb AP with which if I am not mistaken runs like a piggyback on that platform and and not a flash. The ECU in that car is very tricky as I had one and the progress they've made is amazing... Proportionally our record is 540 or so out of a much larger motor; I am expecting great things from these new single kits or bust.

I mean, thinks about it... no one could flash this motor for the longest time; I am not even sure if anyone can at this point and time. This is massive progress for the DI world.

Maybe Cobb can chime in on how this was done and give some comparisons.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the point of the two letters AP, "Access Port", symbolizing a flash tune through the OBD?

That's nuts....

and +1 for mazda's having very tricky/advanced ecu modules. But I'm pretty sure that the access port is a flash tune for the MS3

My friend has a pretty quick MS3 and the Cobb AP is a flash tune just like our AP's.

The fuel system is almost exactly the same as the Audi FSI, it accually uses the same HPFP. Its not anything new to have a GTI 2.0T in the 500WHP so I am sure they adapted the fueling system know how from the Audi's to the MS3. My old A4 had 400 AWHP on a 2.0T with a GT2876R. Its a simple fact that when a car can get 400HP with a tune, less people are willing to push the envolope for an extra 100HP. Its not like we are starting in the 200's the the 4-turbo's.

You may be right, they may have changed it. Back when I had mine; my friends had these AP's and they said that they all ran like a piggyback (as in you plug in the AP to the OBD port and leave it there). This may have changed or they may have not known what they were talking about.

It doesn't change the fact that it's incredibly impressive. The car makes 265 HP stock; this is about double. They are pushing 30 PSI with some sort of HPFP upgrade and fueling it with pump gas and meth. As a result they make 517 WHP... this is incredible if you ask me. That know how needs to get transferred in the N54 community.

yes, that is obvious, but the OP's original post is still valid. Why is the BMW fuel system limited or not easily upgraded?!?!?!?

Trap speed seems a little low for over 500whp at one of the best tracks in the United States where you know the DA was good and track prep was there.

Either way, I agree that the fueling solution knowledge they have needs to be acquired for the n54.

Exactly 500whp on a FWD platform = fail. That is the reason why i got rid of my MK5 GTI.

Well I won't argue with you there but I am solely talking about the engine in this case.

OP didn't have mod list before, LOL

Anyways, that's some serious work. It's nice that we can achieve that kinda power with upgraded twins and meth without touching any of the internals.

Great power, but I can't imagine running through those short gears in that car with those power levels!

We also have a 6 cylinder motor with a much larger displacement if you catch my drift.

I'm in total agreement, its very impressive! What I was meaning is the 4-turbo's guys (like myself) have to push technology/parts much faster/harder to get to 400HP levels. When we have 400HP with a tune, there is less reason for people to push the limits of a 335 since 400HP is all "most" people need. Also in the scheme of things BMW and BMW tuners are fairly new to turbo set-ups so progress is slower. MY 01 S4 had upgraded turbo's in 2001 from TAP. I cant wait to see some single turbo's in full production. I'm saving right now for one. Its going to be a 10K upgrade with supporting mods and labor!
