Cobb Stage 1+

I have seen some discussion on here in regards to a Cobb "Stage 1+" tune. Does anyone have information on this? Cobb, can you say anything about this? Any info on a release date? Is it even true???

I am in the market for an intercooler and I am really only interested in an intercooler so i can run the Stage 1+ tune (yes, I know i could get DP's and run stage 2 but I'd rather do an intercooler). Does anyone have suggestions on an intercooler?

As of right now i am considering the Dinan intercooler (Yes i know its garbage but i value my warranty greatly so this piece of trash is worth it so i can run stage 1+ !!!) or the ETS intercooler. Any suggestions?!!!?

Regards,

08-335

The release date hasn't been confirmed, but it is coming soon. REAL soon, if i had to guess.

You'll find VERY little Dinan love on this forum(for any of their mods.) Dinan doesn't retain the factory warranty, it gives you a warranty through Dinan equal to the remainder BMW warranty. If you run a Cobb tune on a Dinan car it basically voids your Dinan warranty(or gives Dinan an excuse to not honor it, it's happened before.) So, don't spend $1600 on an intercooler.

I'm running the ETS 5" FMIC and it works really well. No heatsoak and IATs during a pull are reduced dramatically. It's great. But there are many great options.

For the most part, dealers don't have an issue with aftermarket FMICs. But that's no guarantee.

Hope this helps.

Dinan would not know that i am running a cobb tune just as my BMW dealer does not know i am running a cobb tune.

Lots of great options on the FMIC.

I wouldn't say that Dinan is one of the top choices, but its your money do with it what you wish.

You could buy a Godspeed FMIC, VRSF Dp's, DCI, and WW Meth kit and a new set of tires for the same price as that FMIC.

If you say the Dinan FMIC is garbage/trash then you are saying that the Spearco FMIC is garbage/trash. Yes thats right the Dinan FMIC is a modified Spearco FMIC, and no one in their right mind would call Spearco garbage/trash.

The price difference between the Spearco and the Dinan modified version is about $300.

However Dinan did something very unique on this Spaerco FMIC, they add four corner air scoops.

Also the Dinan verson offers 0.7 presure drop, and 93% increase in total volume from the BMW stock...

So you get Spearco quality, Dinan engineering, and peace of mind.

So in your search for "better" FMIC than Dinan it must have the following:
  1. More than 0.7 presure drop
  2. More than 93% increase in total volume
  3. Better quality, and design than Spearco http://turboneticsinc.com/node/86
  4. Better Air Scoops (There are none with such an inovation)

You get what you pay for. The only challenge on the market to a Dinan FMIC is the price.

Cobb Tune + Dinan Mods = Muah !

To be honest there are so many intercooler threads and you wont EVER get a definitive answer to which to buy.

The reason is they all have their pros and cons and its up to you decide what suits you best.

Whether its ease of install, budget, design, efficiency or a combination of all of them the end user needs to decide what is right for them.

They are all an improvement over stock so no choice is necessarily a bad one.

Feel free to take a look at my site as I carry a large majority of the popular ones.

I've been running the Spearco intercooler for almost 3 years now and am perfectly happy with it. There are certainly other good choices, but if you're calling the Dinan intercooler garbage then you don't know what you're talking about. Overpriced - sure, but it's technically a very good product. That being said, there are other alternatives on the market that are certainly not worse.

I think he was asking for a rough estimate; i.e. 1 week or 2 weeks or ???.
Personally, i don't see why people don't just order a set of VRSF downpipes and run stage 2+
