Any more ideas about 6at?

Well guys my car is still shifting hard. In the morning when the trannys cool it shifts a lot smoother than when it warms up. I tried resetting the adaptive part by turning car on acc and holding the gas down for 30sec, it def helps but over time it goes right back to shifting hard from 1st-2nd and 2nd to 3rd. I thought maybe a upgraded tranny cooler might help but believe only universal are available. Also looked at buying a Bev Tech tool and see if I could do anything with it for the tranny but after some research don't know what the tech tool can do. Just know its an option. Dealer cant pull a code for the yellow gear with the exclamation in it since its a "soft" code and doesnt stay on. Any ideas? Plus I've already installed a new filter and fluid change twice. I bought the car from a one owner lady so the fact the tranny is giving me a hard time at 90k boggles me.

Mine went at 81000 kilometers. Would put itlsef into neutral when at a dead stop.
Luckyly dealer replaced it.
Had someone check it with a bt scanner before bringing it in just to see what was up and I had codes: transmision gear ratio a and transmission gear ratio d.
I never really noticed hard shifts since I was used to it, but now with the new one its definetly smoother.
I hate to say it, but it will only get worse, if its on its way out there isnt much a tranny cooler will do, you gotta fix

That's what I was afraid of. Might just trade it in and take the hit on the trade. Thanks for the reply

Mine is starting to make a clunk noise (70K), it's very loud when I'm parked and go from P/R/N/D

Might want the warranty or consider finding a low mileage tranny from a junkyard online.

I have the same thing. Any idea what causes that? Is torque converter related, valve body, clutches not holding or something else.

It seems like when the car is in drive with the foot on the break the transmission places more than normal load on the engine.

there are multiple adaptations that you can reset, i think your method resets the throttle adaptation, not AT transmission shifting. i'm sure the mass will correct me if i'm wrong.

i only know how to reset the transmission aaptation via procede, i had hard shifting before that went away wity the reset.

OP what your describing sounds like low transmission fluid. Slipping when cold and improved shifting when warm.

Did you have a reputable shop change the fluid?

Well if you consider myself as a reputable shop and following the DIY on here lol. I've changed many different tranny filters and fluids in the past, the 335i wasnt much different.

I'm sure it's fine. lol.

Are you scoping out a rebuild? I've talked to a few manufacturers of auto transmission parts to see if I could figure out where the performance XF parts are coming from. I've had no luck as it seems the ones I've spoken to do not manf. Parts for our transmission yet.

Op, try a transmission reset.
If nothing improves, its only a matter of time until it eventually fails.
Dont panic though, probably still have a long time until it completely gives up, lol theyre pretty strong!

Wouldn't hurt to take it to the dealer but I doubt they'll tell you much. Especially if there aren't any codes.
IMO you're likely past what a reset of adaptations will fix.

I hope I'm wrong.

Good luck.

You may want to invest in a bav tech or other BMW diagnostic software anyway.

yes but you need to lift the car and do a specific procedure.

Have any details? Having the same problem and would like to stop it before it gets worse, if possible.

Well after waiting three hours at the dealershipto just run a diagnostic, found out that it has to do with my shifter itself and not the tranny. Also found out that they changed the fluid and transmission pan/filter in April of last year. Guy told me after driving it that that's just how the 335i shift. So I don't if its paranoia but seems like crisis avoided.

Yeah, I don't see a correlation between a problem with the shifter and slipping and or sloppy shifts when cold.

Were your problems in steptronic mode?
