Steering Wheel Problem

Awhile back i noticed that when i am going in reverse and turning the steering wheel there is a point at which the steering wheel seems to miss a link. It has now started when taking a full turn left or right. It almost seems as if its missing teeth the distance if taking a full turn is 180 Degrees only spans about 10 degrees. But it feels like there is some play in the steering wheel. I drive a 2006 325xi...I am wondering if its power steering fluid. Or if i need to take it in.
