Hi,
I´m wondering if somebody knows how to add new POIs (Points Of Interest) on the navi-pro like you can do with Tom Tom Go. I also would like to know i there are other map dvd´s than the originals from Navtech that are fully compatible with our navigator. Thanks

i have see on Road Map Europe Professional 06-1 that POI are write in PLAIN TEXT :-D so is easy to change add or remove.

i have not try if work because i haven't dvd burner :-( :-(

I just checked my "BMW Road Map Europe Profassional" Dvd 2005-2 and could not find the poi's, only the icons of them.

so we have fixed lengh for all the data, POSWGS:S:19|VILLAGE:S:13|CITY:S:19 = position 19 char, village 13 char, city 19 char .... is NOT difficult add some new POI
but you can found correct file !! so this 0046 are for rolls-royce seller i think :-)
on dvd there are a LOT of poi that BMW navi don't show :-(

so you can search for an restaurant you know, find the file and add other restaurant (or delete too far city)

Are these files just stored in plain ASCII on the DVD or are they somwhow encoded. If they are readable, then the format looks like it is pretty easy to understand.

I am guessing to add new POIs you would need to:

1. Copy the NAV DVD onto your PC
2. Find the file above
3. Edit to add your own POI
4. Burn all data including modified file onto a new DVD

I'll give it a go once I get my car ...

is pretty easy... but not too easy if you comepare coord on file and coord from online maps (like google map) you find some difference, like 2,xxx° anda 1,6,xxx° but this differs from an poi to another poi

I'm working in adding new POIs. I've already managed to write a small program to convert *.idx and *.url to csv and another program to generate the .idx and .url files from ASCII files available in the Net.

I still have to burn a DVD to test it. Maybe today....

Well, I took some files for MapSource, converted them, added to the DVD and burned a new DVD. The new category of POIs appears correctly in the navigation system, I can browse through the POIs and set them as destinations. What I haven't been able to make it work yet is to show the POI icon for that category in the map where the POIs are located.

Coordinates are fine. They are expressed using the WGS-84 model, as the GPS specification. The numbers shown in the *.idx and *.url files are just longitude and latitude using a 32-bit signed integer. In other words, take degrees (positive for North and East, negative for South and West) and multiply them by 2^31/180 to convert to those numbers.

I can explain what I've done so far, but I want to figure out the remaining part (how to show the icons in the map).

Can u explain where your adding the new POIs? is it in the folder "0"
