When should i place my order?

I want to get an '09 m3, preferably one of the first ones... when should i place my order to achieve this? or should i have already placed one by now?

your best bet is the earliest possible so now would be a good time

They hype, overcharging and small inventory even in So. Cal. will only last part way into the first year of production. After then you will probably be fine placing a deposit and or ordering to your liking just a few months before you want the car. If you are happy to grab one right of the lot then you won't even have to worry about a few months advance planning.
