Went to Nurburgring in my 2.2 Z4
Remapped, K+N 57i, Standard runflats:
10 mins 10secs Only did 2 laps and this is with a full bootspace, passenger and full take of fuel. I intend to go back on my own without the extra weight and less in the tank and hope to get below 10mins Edit: Also had the roof down to wave at people :rocks: |

9mins? in a 2.2?
Yes it was great fun, my mate said it was the best fun he'd had with his clothes on and I would say it's like a rollercoaster track with the car being the cab. The only problem I found was that there was a lack of torque, as soon as I hit a straight and wanted to get going it was slow to hit off. Funny though, after all that racing around I could no longer smell the catalytic convertor...I keep telling myself I must of just cleaned it out, I can't hear any tinkling to suggest a blow can, exhaust not changed a lot too but that seems to of settled down on the drive back so am assuming it was the ECU adapting to the driving style. Odd how I have different driving style to my mate as well, on every corner he was screeching around and you could hear the tyres taking a beating but when I did it my tyres never screeched once yet we have similar times (around 15 seconds between us). |

Cool. Didn't see the 2.2. 10 mins is probably a good time. Wish I could be doing the same thing. 15 seconds is alot for one lap actually. If you guys were a few seconds apart thats something different but 15 seconds is a huge difference for the same car.

Sweeet - I would love to drive that track even if just in a rental car. I typically have to clean the drool off of my keyboard every time I watch a video of someone lapping on that lovely piece of pavement.
Fast lap times are for those who have had a chance to practice the lines and go out ready for timed laps. For the rest of us just go enjoy the endless grinnage of being behind the wheel there!

what's a good explanation for the difference in screeching tires and the non-screeching ones? Does screeching tires mean that the tires were turned at a higher speed and thus, translate to more aggresive driving (faster time) ?

It's good to hear your tires losing traction a little...it means that the car is at it's limit and you're going as fast as possible through the turn. If the car is just stuck to the ground you could probably go faster. If the wheels are spinning like crazy you hit the turn too fast and you're losing time.

For the most part squealing tires means that you are using them to generate friction and that acts as a braking force which will slow you down. Keeping the tires just under the limits of where they lose grip and start squealing is a faster way to take corners.
You see lots of "hot dogging" folks doing the sideways game for show but it is not the fastest way around a track.
